The next update will be tomorrow, if I can help it. I've played through the summer, so now I just need to piece it together.

But you never see a movie where a terrible coal plant accident causes a horrible devastation, do you? Nope, everyone seems to think that nuclear plants get their energy by smacking live atomic warheads all day or something.

20th Felsite to 24th Galena, year 14:

I am very fortunate to have been alone this time. No one must know what I am.
Some people tell stories of gods creating avatars, bodily versions of themselves. You could say that I am such a dwarf but Armok... Well, he is erratic. He creates worlds, a wondrous and awesome creation- but they are steeped in warfare. For this reason, carnage tends to awaken his influence in me. I have been cast out for my apparent mental disorder, but I have finally found a home, accepted by those who know not of my fate.

I only hope that I may continue to hide my condition.

These corpses REALLY SMELL BAD

You would think that with all the rotting these things do, they'd eventually just disintegrate.

The undump machines have failed miserably due to some oddity with this fortress' dwarves. apparently, they have discovered jumping. Such is the bane of engineers. Stone clearing will now be done by more traditional atom smashing.

I have designated the obsidian farm as a more literal farm.

It's not as if we NEED more rocks, and we are in state of serious food deficit. We got down to the point of having about 10 barrels of wine on hand.
At least the volcanic soil will grow crops quite well.

The new stockpile has been cleared, the areas designated.

Left to right- adamanitine, bar/block, furniture.

Once again, dwarves are becoming consumed by their greed. HUZZAH!

At least the latter is making some contribution to the fortress as a result.

It's got some engravings on it, too. Meh. At least he's a bit better at his craft now.

...and then, BOO!

And that's how one poor dwarf got scared to death. Pansy.
So as to stop this from reoccurring to someone important, I order some more coffins to be placed in a near-empty tomb.

As if sensing the death, a particularly odorous creature appeared outside the cavern palisades.

It will be watched, but is of little concern. Whoever had these walls built did well.

Oh, good. Something to test the newly-improved defenses on.

Not much of a force, but I expect others to be sighted.
I'll have to command from my inner chambers. I can't risk being thrown out again, and these zeds are already covered in gore, which doesn't help with my *condition* at all.

TO BE CONTINUED.

How are the orbs temples doing?

How much ore has been produced?

Also, obsidian is three times as valuable as the crap stone we otherwise available. With two (at least) legendary masons we can surround our dwarves with high value furniture to help prevent tantrum spirals. As well as lessening the effects of the tantrum spirals that do start.

How in the world did we get down to 10 booze? I left the fort with plenty of the stuff and the food and drink industry balanced for a fort of 150 dwarves.

I don't know if you need other ideas when you have magma.

Mausoleum- Just think of it like those Egyptian burials where all of the deceased's servants and slaves are buried with him to work eternally.

Stone- We have FAR TOO MUCH STONE. And we do need the farming done- so, until I find a better farming spot, the obsidian farm will be offline. I do see your point, though. I just hate all the stray stone around here. OCD-like tendencies.

Booze- No idea.

Temples- Haven't been paying attention to the them, really- most are too cluttered to do anything, I'll be allocating space for focus/orb use use in the stockpiles. I'l work on it.

Yet another reason for obsidian. 1/3 or the components for magma safe pumps can be gotten from obsidian.

The temples are our only source of ore, which means we can't forge proper arms and armor unless we keep them constantly in use. Here is the description of the mod: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=92138.msg2574307#msg2574307

There is a section in the first post that explains the use of the new features.

You can focus on securing the safety and future of the fort, or if you would rather have us over run by zombies, by all means keep focusing on moving rocks around.

You're taking this a little too seriously. I'm working on getting some infrastructure working so that we don't starve. As to 'moving rocks around,' some of those are being used in fixing up the defenses so as to stop any intrusion. Sealing zombies out is a matter of one well-placed bridge, and the cage traps have stopped them easily if they do make it through. Really, they're relatively harmless at this point.

Has anyone else noticed how Hugo has all but vanished? Apart from the occasional post, he is pretty much gone! ???

Hmmmmmm. I may draw interesting or important things that happen now. Understand that they will be crap but they may eventually improve.
