crappy

 :(

Anyway, the older mods are:

Genesis - a huge flavor mod with a dwarven castes system. Lots of new fauna, flora and reactions. Usually has frequent updates, but real life took over recently.
Civ Forge - a mod that adds lots of interesting civilizations. Some new fauna, flora and reactions. Updates are not all that frequent.
Dig Deeper - a hard mod that introduces first year sieging orcs. Some new fauna, flora and reactions. Author is sick at the moment.

The newer, creative mods are:

Fortress Defense Mod: What it says on the tin. Has a ton of enemies that hates your goddamn guts, and your fortress will become the sequel to Boatmurdered in lategame.

Legend of Forlorn Realms - a mod that introduces a tech tree system. Details are on the main thread. Not too many new flavor additions, but many creative things like alchemy side effects, dying voidwalkers going all matyr, and weaponizable booze!

Corrosion - A hard, zombie mod that introduces harder industries, harder sources of food and drink, and weaker weapons and armor. You must survive on the surface (rock undiggable) against the infected. Don't get bitten!

Wizard Tower - Interesting mod that introduces wizards. Castes of wizards have their abilities and tempers depending on their caste. Very creative and all that. Not an easy mod, such as how wizards are always late and their caravan takes the entire first year to get to you. Add in evil wizards, some proud warrior race that like to hunt the most dangerous game (wizards), and clashing personalities, and your in for a fun ride.

Dwarven Hive mod - An interesting mod that enhances the castes system. Worth a look at.

New mods are always popping up. Do give them at least a look and an encouragement to get them started, and every awesome mod starts somewhere  :D

The S.L.A.D.E. mod is pretty awesome.

You seem to be under the illusion that we give a shit about what happens to dwarves who are too dumb to live.

Legends of the Forlorn Realms has honestly been one of the most interested mods I've played with. While I'm not a fan of it, I know a lot of people really like Genesis as well. And I know Fortress Defense makes for more interesting games mechanically, and a lot of people like it for its high number of sieges, but I've never really been able to get into it because the concept of an entire race of war elephants feels thematically wrong to me.

Wizard tower is pretty cool, and has a somewhat complex system of fortress-mode magic that's worth checking out. Corrosion is really, really cool if you're into complete overhauls. Tanmod adds new materials to the game though I doubt that will relieve boredom. If you get tanmod, you might as well grab Wanderer's Friend and Blacksmith's friend as well.

Battlecraft is also fairly interesting. And Kobold Camp is really awesome.

I like the interesting cocktail of mods I've got--Fortress Defense, Dwarf Caramel, Wizard Tower, EMMYE, and all of them tinkered with some. I'm trying to figure out how to make wizards and sorcerers embark with wands or their components, but am having little success.

Point is, I mix mods and like the result.

A few easy steps:
Step 1: Learn C++
Step 2: Find a C++ decompiler
Step 3: Decompile Dwarf fortress.
Step 4: Find the code for sand collection
Step 5: ???
Step 6: Profit!Mod!
