Some of my favorites:

For quick and dirty gunning, Gang members. They usually start with some gun skills, but have substandard attributes.
For longer term soldiers, I recommend black belts, athletes, dancers and yoga instructors. They start with no weapon skills (usually) but have high skill caps because of their good agility.
Hackers, writers? Try the obvious types: programmers, journalists, authors... also, Liberal Judges combine high INT and HRT, making them excellent writers in the long run
Melee weapons? Firemen have axe skill, and axes are cool.
Guitar squads? Hippies.
Training combat skills? Agents or soldiers.
Prostitution? Prostitutes (o rly?). For seducing trickier conservatives, you'll eventually need higher CHA though, so one of those superconservatives would be nice.

Mmhmm. And if you ever need recruits, I don't see bothering with the Gang Members at all. Just go for Agents, really.

How do you get agents?

Via kidnapping. It's just too risky to date them. Torturing them is hard, too.

Towards the end of my last game I was persuading them (low success rate, but no real risk of permanent damage). May have been fixed since 4.03.1 however.

I played a game where it was just my founder, who did a hell of alot of prostituting to get alot of cash and a high Seduction skill. I would then sneak into the CEO's place, seduce him, and have him join my squad. I then did that 10 more times to have a squad of elite Deagle wielding ass kickers.

Actually, I'm not sure why. But it does.

It's because they deal with "slimy" types. However, it's not really significant.

A prostitute only has a 1/3 chance of working each day. If I recall correctly, every day they work they'll have a 1/3 chance of a street sense roll (difficulty is average). If this roll fails, they'll lose a maximum of 2 juice. Since prostitution trains street sense, it's highly unlikely for an experienced hooker to lose significant amounts of juice over long periods of working.
