Ghosts and things that should stay dead.
« on: July 03, 2011, 12:00:44 am »

Random question. I had a noble who was pouring out mandates by the bucket load, asking for iron objects on a world where iron and other minerals were quite rare. Then he decided to get unhappy and kill my Legendary Armoursmith. So I tossed his corpse into the deepest pit of the cavern lake, then emptied the volcano onto it and turned his corpse into an obsidian block, after which I sealed it up and forgot about it.

Now he has a ghost that annoys me, anyway to get rid of him without a memorial? If I do have to make a memorial, can that suffer an !!accident!! and still be viable? If it does can I just cave in that meorial so it drops into the lake where I can dump more magma ontop of him?

Important stuff and all.

Make the memorial out of a magma-safe stone, and then put it at the bottom of a magma-moat. He can burn eternally.

CTRL+V, target the ghost, Z

Just like you check anything else's description. Unless it explicitly states that he's violent or angry or whatever, you can probably just ignore him.

Excellent, he's safe. Anyway, I want him to suffer. It took me ages to get the materials together to train that Armour smith up. Plus he defended the fort on more than one occasion, missing an eye from it too. That and after his death, the purpose of the fort went from the production of the finest quality Armour to making urist mcimmakillthemostvaluablepersoninthefort suffer.

Let him wander. That's the worst you can do for him. If he joins a party, memorial him, to ruin it.

If one of your dwarves ever get a fell mood they can kill the ghost. I had this happen not to long ago in a fort I got bored with and tried to drown very slowly. Was quite funny.

Memorial him and then dump rotten macaque corpses on top of the slab.

Or place his memorial as the landing zone of 20-z goblin execution splatter towers, build walls around the "landing site" to make sure all the nice little pieces falls on top of it.

Well, that's what I would do. :P

EDIT: Silly typo!

Proof :

I was disappointed beyond measure that my first ever fell mood was in a fort I was trying to kill off, and that said fell dwarf couldnt get to any living dwarf due to the flooding. In fact the only reason why he killed this ghost, and 2 other ghost was because they appeared in the same square as he.
