Fun game, shame Valve left it 4 dead (heehee).
Public games can be a bit hard to find and it's even harder to find a server that runs decent custom maps and near impossible to have the right map version to connect.
The default missons are well done and very varied, though they do get stale after the second run through or so.
The lack of a big bad boss monster (typical for Valve
)was a bit of a let down.
Some of the weapons felt like fluff to me and could do with some tweaking. Some weapons combos seem to make the game fairly easy, I managed to play through the game on various diffculties with the officer's shotgun and flamer.
Still if Valve ever decided to come back and work on it again a few features could make the game great.
-Better map support with an online database to download from.
-Few tweaks in weapons.
-More variation in aliens.
-Some new game modes
-Couple of big bad monsters or "elites" that really mess up your day.
-Perhaps some sort of versus mode ala L4D with a team controlling the monsters.
-Could merge some rts espacts into it, like Zombie Master, Irongrip or a "player controlled AI director" (not a simple feature but it's still cool)
I'm really hoping Valve will come back to polish the game. Since TF2 went Free to Play I'm thinking they just might.
An item shop for some crappy hats or some bling weapons and some free dlcs. Bam, new players on steam which is a pretty good marketing scheme.
