ASCII Wars - Match started!
« on: July 01, 2011, 04:03:16 pm »

ASCII wars is a bit like Picture wars (Located here) but with ASCII draw (Located here). See page four for match.

How to: Two (or more) players will form a game. Each player chooses tiles to use that do not conflict with other players. The map is drawn. The players then post their turn.

Rule: You must be aware of traditional picture war rules: Be fair, no god-mode (unless telling a story where it might be neccesary), and generally common sense.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

I probably won't be participating, but I'm reading through the rules and a few finished matches.  These look pretty cool, gotta say.

Oh! Oh! Oh!

I've been on PW since just after it started back on Facepunch. I might have a try at this 'ASCII Wars'.

Anyways, I like the PW community less each time I visit them. This time they're tell me that using real military tactics is wrong.

Anyways, explain how ASCII wars works. Do you build an army first?

Might as well through a couple of questions my self.

1) Is it one character = one unit scale?  As in, 'Dwarf Fortress Scale', where a D(ragon) is the same size as an s(oldier)?
2) Is it top down?  Or is it side-viewed just as Picture Wars tends to be?
3) Will it be a one V one match, one of us versus you?  Or some other set?
4) Do we have to use an "officially" established PW army, or can we make one up on the fly?

1) Yeah, DF style.
2) Top down, but with limited vertical movement. Journey of a (rat)man style.
3) I'm just hosting the topic. Wars are premeditated, with players joining before the game and then playing.
4) Make it up on the fly. Just be fair. It is suggested it is made up before the game starts on an -ish scale. I.E: Steampunk-ish, DF-ish, etc.

Example battle start sheet:

Map: (picture/file)
Era/game/style: DF
Players: 2-3

This looks pretty interesting. I'm in.

So... are there any hard rules, or are we making those up entirely as we go along?

Think of it like Sim City, except with rival mayors that seek to destroy your citizens by arming legions of homeless people and sending them to attack you.

Hard rules are for the game-starter to decide. Basic rules are in OP.

If it's anything like PW, then there are no hard rules. Anyways, I'll play a DF style match with someone. We can have two warring Dwarf nations.

I'd prefer two teams of elite operatives fighting each other. Can I be entered?
