My well is bleeding...
« on: August 30, 2006, 06:25:00 pm »

The meeting hall defined from my first well is gradually filliing up with blood and ichor. (screenshot)

Now, I'm not sure if that is a bug in and of itself, (although I don't know where the ichor came from unless wells are actually supposed to bleed) but none of my dwarves are cleaning the blood and ichor up.

Blood never dries, so all you need is one spot to start - maybe some frogmen came out of the well? - then your dwarves will track it on their boots all over the fortress.

On cleaning - do you have some spare buckets? Dwarves on cleaning duty pick up an extra bucket, fill it from the river, then clean up blood (or, occasionally, get distracted and drop the bucket, so now you have a hallway with gore and spoiled water.)

Nothing has come out of the well, and I have not encountered any ichor bearing creatures.

And when I say the dwarves aren't cleaning it up, I mean that there have been no "clean blood" or "clean ichor" orders whatsoever since it showed up.

The smearing is excessive now -- the ichor probably came from a single cave spider that got squashed in a door.

I admit:  The first time I saw this effect, it was just after I killed my first dwarf (he was insane, so I locked him in his room to starve.)  I thought his ghost had haunted my fortress and was making blood pour out of the well.

That would be an EXCELLENT implementation of haunting, by the way. It would be especially good if bleeding wells result from dwarves that were drowned by floodgate "accidents", as it would give some reason for people to avoid drowning immigrants/nobles. (And a reason for other, more sinister people to keep on doing, of course.)

This is why I wasn't sure if the ichor was a bug or not. It would be great if there were unknown forces which could make wells leak ichor, so I was hoping it was maybe actually a feature.

If this game were more developed, I would think it would be spilt blood from an underground cave that the river runs though.

That would be pretty cool, but inconvenient, I 'spose.
