We need some hardcore strategy westerns. No one's really ever tried that. Such as helping a town survive the west in terms of resources, striking gold(maybe), casinos, brothels, lawmen, bandits etc etc.

I like the idea of an XCOM-style tactical Western...

I always wanted a DFesque game where you run a frontier town or outpost and you have you're own character that you'd use to battle outlaws. Sadly, there really isn't that many western games out there. RDR is by far the best one I've played, and it still falls short in some places. I really hope that the western genre will expand thanks to RDR's popularity.

So, you start with seven gunmen against a whole lot of attacks against outlaws, bandits, and the like that periodically raid the area.  After arriving in the area you set up a food system, arrange complicated defences and intensively train up all the farmers, and yet still the better part of your number die while saving the day...  Naw, sounds completely unlike anything anyone would be interested in... :)

I know eh, sound stupid. I shouldn't have brought it up. But really, I meant more along the lines of a procedurally generated wild west, where you are the manager/sheriff of a frontier town that starts with nothing.

This game could honestly give out hand jobs for free and people would still bitch.

I did some quick searching but cant seem to find a game I played as a kid. I THOUGHT it was as SSI game, might have played it on the Commodore 64 or a PC.

Basically, it was based on the Boot Hill ruleset from TSR. I think there were several scenarios, i remember there being a choice of some of the classic shootouts like the OK corral. IT was a turnbased tactical affaire, similar to playing Jagged Alliance and the likes.

I know I really liked that Warioware minigame where you're a sheriff gunning down baddies...
And of course I loved Red Dead Revolver, and Redemption was pretty good too. Sadly, not too many western-themed games. :(

Quite true, but there is a tactical stealth game called Desperados: Wnated Dead or Alive that is basically Commandos in Wild West. It's not too hardcore though, if I recall correctly it's quite light-hearted.

There's two kind of people in this world. People who make roguelikes and people who play roguelikes...

Sub-humans, inferior beings, non-people or whatever have you of course.

Either way, I'd hit that.

There was a time-increment style game that is probably not the game you're thinking of, called Gunslinger.

Was it "Six-Gun Shootout"?
