Ok I really want some way to protect myself from espionage now, otherwise I'm going to have to seriously consider the "blow the crap out of anyone who sends spies at me" route of deterrence. Having looked up what espionage can do on the wiki has made me decide that I REALLY don't want spies running about considering my tech lead.

"Espionage grants you one of the following randomly, new background technology, gravitational data for a known system, geological data for a known system, summary data on an alien class, the ability to build a random alien missile or weapon system or knowledge of a new system. "
That is damn scary, especially since I don't have any survey data to be stolen.

Do I have enough officers to form a team of my own? I wouldn't mind a chance at swiping the EU's sensor tech.

Well, I think it gives you research points rather than a whole tech. It's also very slow. Maybe we could strike a deal?

That's probably true, but it's still not something I want to let happen. What kind of deal do you have in mind?

Scientific exchange mostly. What's the point of Espionage if we can't get the tech another way?

Ahh thought so, I wouldn't mind trading shield tech for something, though I'd ask the condition that neither side can further trade the tech obtained.

The EU's orders (subject to change as other members of the High Command weigh in)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I slightly edited the orders. I'd suggest we put all change in bold and in color, so we know who ordered what. I'll claim red.

On another note, I believe we should invest most of our assets into mercury. It is an harsh planet, but relatively easy to colonize, as it's easier to cool a planet than warm it up.

Okay all put all my changes in green.
While I agree that Mercury is a good planet to colonization the US has already laid claim so to do so we will
have to cut a deal with them or fight a war over the planet
And I would prefer not to engage the US until all of our Victory class ships are converted to Warlocks
I also support a tech trade with Japan

Maybe they would be interested in or PD tech that we are developing in exchange for the next level engines.

Shield tech at Japans level is a joke so I would not be interested in a trade for that if we are unable to upgrade it

P.S. espionage is just not as effective as it sounds unless you have 10 or so espionage teems all on a single target

I don't think the US would go to war with us for Mercury. The point is that we cannot simply allow a power to lay a claim on most of the solar system TNE deposits. If the US want to keep the all for itself, we'll need to go to war anyway. If it's ready to share the System with us, it should let us mine on Mercury.

I'd still kind of like to wait and see what happens with the team. I'm reading an AAR by the game's programmer, and he mentions espionage backfiring several times; the team getting captures and divulging information to those they were spying on. If it works like this it's much less powerful, and works as more of a balancing measure; it's most worthwhile when you're behind on tech, and dangerous when you're ahead.

Also, still waiting on US orders.

I'd rather not fight as well, but the fact remains that we have a substantial investment in Mercury, and more is to come. It'd be a shame for the first interplanetary war to be fought over a lifeless, semi-molten ball  :-\
Perhaps we can reach some sort of deal. Say...mining rights in exchange for a terraforming vessel per nation? Obviously Forsaken would have to weigh in, but it strikes me as a reasonable deal.

Orders...

That kind of deal seems perfect. How about as set amounts of Working Terraforming Modules per nation (10 or so)? It doesn't matter if the modules are in factories, a huge orbital station or 10 small vessels.

I'd prefer space-borne modules. Saves the trouble of transporting infrastructure :|

But yes, 10 units of mobile terraformers would be acceptable to me. Again, I must wait for my partner's input before any deal can be made, but I could see this working.

Come on guys, we need some conflict here.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Conflict for the sake of conflict solves nothing :/

Fighting will probably break out sooner or later. Right now there's not much to fight about.

NO, YOU MUST ADHERE TO RACIAL STEREOTYPES AND FIGHT YOUR OLD CULTURAL ENEMIES!

Or not, whatever floats your boat. I'm just saying that constant peace is going to get real boring real fast.

That's how Aurora is in the early years  v :) v

Once wormhole exploration kicks off, we may be running into robotic precursors, hostile alien empires, and even more spoiler-ific horrors  ;D
