Right I've missed a lot while I was asleep. There's a lot to get through.

Firstly, I agree with not building jump gates leading from unexplored systems, that's just asking for disaster.

I'm inclined to agree with Sheb with regards to body ownership. I don't think there should be any exclusive claims unless someone either makes deals with other nations or is willing to back it up with firepower. On that note, any claim I make at the moment isn't exclusive in any way, although if anyone wants to make any deals I'm open.

Right, orders:

With a deficit running, and how little I trust them to do it this century, no.

EDIT: Actually, do so for Charon but nowhere else.

((OOC: Not sure what year it is...is it 2025? In any case...))

CNN BREAKING NEWS

Following a landslide vote by Congress today, Gregory Trayner has stepped down as President of the United States. The impeachment vote, which was approved by 91% of Congress and an astounding 98% of public opinion, came into being following revelations that Trayner was deliberately attempting to provoke war between the United States, The European Union, the Island of Japan, and the People's Republic of China, over settlement and mining rights on Mercury.

*cut to Senate floor*

"...we are appalled that one man would destabilize the last decade of peace and exploration, just to run rampant over the human race..."

*back to CNN*

Gregory faced a firestorm of controversy over the last two months after confidential tapes were released, revealing that he planned to use the hardworking Mercury workers as disposable pawns, and to "accidently" draw fire onto civilian transports, which he hoped would draw the human race into the first conflict in space, followed by bombardment of other countries from orbit. The general reaction was one of outrage:

Protester outside the White House: "He had no right to do this sort of thing. We have no real quarrel with our brothers and sisters overseas, and yet this madman tried to enslave them!"

Mercury colony Chief Engineer: "We were devastated when we found out what was going on. My men and women have been living in terror of a nuclear strike since this pissing match erupted, and we've actually had some suicides. Their blood is on Trayner's hands."

Vice President Elizabeth Hernandez is scheduled to be sworn in as President later today. She had become increasingly opposed to the rising hostilities between powers, and desperately sought peaceful solutions only to be turned down by angry diplomats.

*earlier speech*

Hernandez: "...our world, which had been shrinking until recently, has suddenly expanded to far greater dimensions than ever imagined. To go to the brink of annihilation over a world only slightly smaller than our own is of the utmost stupidity, especially when there are so many more places to go..."

The swearing in will be broadcast live at 6:00pm EST, and one can almost feel the planet taking a deep, collective breath.

((OOC: Holy cow, that should have been done an hour ago. Relatives coming over 9_9  ))

The US attends a worldwide conference to discuss the "Yoda Guidelines". We need to figure this stuff out before planets start glowing :/

Orders:
Space Orders: Warships are to stand down and allow free passage of foreign freighters, as a sign of faith that the other nations will stand their own warships down. Survey vessels will, of course, continue working as they are not involved in the Mercury Disagreement.

Other: The US will contribute terraforming vessels towards Mars and Mercury as soon as it is feasible.

BBC NEWS

In other news today the President Trayner has been impeached following that he was attempting use the dramatic use warships to escort freighters inbound to Mercury by the EU now known as the Mercury Crisis as an excuse to start a war.

In a interview with BBC a spokesperson for the EU High Command acknowledged partial responsibility for the situation and apologized to the citizens of the EU and to the world for their "Hawkish attitude in handling the Mercury Crisis" he further stated that the EU hoped that humanity "move forward in a spirit of brotherhood". More specifically he also announce that all EU warships would be recalled immediately and promised that EU would attend the conference to discuss the Yoda Accords he also pledged that as a gesture of good will the EU will share any terraforming tech developed will all nations engaged in terrafroming operations around the Solar System and if our scientists are correct about the potential of jump technology around the Galaxy.

To return to leading story of the day singer and rising star Lucienda Anderna was seen attending a party with industrialist Robert Miller could this be start of a serious relationship for Lucienda or will this end the way her last 23 romantic relationships did? To answer this question we would like to refer to our panel of leading experts.....

Spoiler: New Orders (click to show/hide)

I'd like to apologize to the US for my harsh comments and hawkish views. It is true that I was ready to face war without taking in account the huge civilians casualities that may have followed. As such, I'll depart and another MEP from the Sheb United Party will take my post. Orders have been sent to the Fleet to stay in its dock.

Hey Bremen, I'm kinda lost right now, could you give me a status update on the PRC and what we're doing? I'm pretty sure Knave gave the last orders but I can't seem to find them.

As the United States is celebrating their Independence Day, all government officials are on break until tomorrow. No new orders, but try not to make any decisions until I get back  :P
