You're supposed to gather materials, and then they are your own to use.

You can also make something out of one bar of metal, then sell it for more influence, and repeat.

Think of influence as your money. You buy resources with it and sell the finished product, with profit, so you can buy more/better resources, and so on.

Reisen will collect Water, preferably in a alchemically-manipulable format.

World difficulty: 79
A perfectly blue sky and an even bluer ocean merge at the horizon, though it is impossible to tell where one starts and the other ends. You can see a few species of fish near the surface, beyond that it is too dark to see anything.

I claim Armok. I use him to make a a chair.
As everyone prepares to leave the ship on a first expedition, you grab Armoks arm and try to drag him to your workplace. A strong electrical shock runs trough your hand and continues trough your arm up to your shoulder, and you hear a claxon and a friendly female voice: "Please refrain from using force against any other residents of the ship. This is your first warning. Have a nice trip."

I will gather.
Attempt: 75
Quality: 33
Quantity: 29 -  33 = 1

Hoping to find a nice piece of stone in the depths of the sea, you conjure a bubble of air around your head and start descending. After a while, even your magically enhanced eyes can not pierce the darkness anymore, and preventing the pressure from crushing your body requires all your concentration. You decide to go back to the ship, and halfway to the surface, you notice a few bright red lobsters. You manage to grab one before it flees.

I gather materials
Attempt: 77
Quality: 62
Quantity: 100 - 62 = 38

You grow gills and follow Ochita into the deep, but soon realize he's heading straight for an abyss. You turn to the right, where the ocean floor is much higher, and a spot of brown between the green algae and gray rocks catches your eye. A small submarine is stranded here, and you start gathering every loose scrap of steel you can find. Sadly, the machinery is rusted to the point of uselesness.

Reisen will collect Water, preferably in a alchemically-manipulable format.
Difficulty: 0
Attempt: 26

You don't even leave the ship - from the airlock, you capture some of the water in a forcefield and take it to your lab. Sadly, it is completely contaminated with all kinds of minerals and microscopic plant and animal life. There's nothing you can do with it, and completely frustrated, you throw it back in the sea.

Action-Will start catching fish?
Difficulty: 0
Attempt: 57
Quality: 41
Quantity: 50 - 41 = 9

You clack your fingers, and suddenly you are holding a marvellous fishing rod. Another clack, and you stand on a floating platform. Clack-clack-clack and you are sitting in a comfortable camping chair, sipping a dark beer and reading a comic while your fishing rod is resting loosely in your hand. At the end of a 'productive' day, nine blue-green fish from an unknown species are laying next to you on the platform. You're starting to like this tournament.

guess I'll try gathering then
Attempt: 98!
Quality: 53
Quantity: 97 - 53 = 44

All those silly opponents and their silly gathering techniques. You, as a logic mind, will show them all how it's done. You dive in the water, and enhance your hearing, before letting out a series of ultrasound shrieks. Soon, you have a complete map of the surrounding sea floor. One thing in particular struck you as interesting: A container, still closed, firmly wedged between two rocks. A few minutes later, you are floating next to it and open the doors. Inside is a shipment of - you don't believe your eyes for a moment - wax cylinders. You carry them to the ship as quickly as you can.

Might as well try frying one fish to see if it's edible!

is that 53 influence EACH, or for all of them?

If it's for each, I sell 10 of them for 530 influence.

I try to, using various methods, transform 5 vax into a Set of Various Plastics of different properties.

Also, I'm interested in trading for those iron scraps Tar. In general I think we should team up, so that you can do the hardware and I the software for things, much more efficient than each of us having to do things we're not good at.

is considered 'bending rules'. While it is true that you can craft a 'set' of things in one action, that rule is in place to allow such things as armor sets, or complex machinery with multiple parts, not to allow you to make 5 different things. Let me phrase it this way: sets are allowed as long as they are meant to be kept as a whole. I'm sorry, but I'll have to be strict on that one.
What you could do, for instance, is molding these wax cylinders into a single hardened wax machine. You have powers and stuff, your machine doesn't need different materials for every few parts. Or whatever you wanted to make with those plastics. Or make a single sort of plastic, and make everything out of that.

Armok you can make a single type of plastic, and then use that for anything, you're godlike, so it stands to reason you can shift its properties, so its essentially some type of plastic that can act like any plastic that you want.
