As you open your eyes, you are standing in a great, round chamber. Hundreds, maybe thousands of other people are there with you. They all look as confused as you do, some looking around for an exit - there is none - some talking to others, in languages you've never heard. The room is, as far as you can tell, a perfect half sphere, made of an unknown metal, and nothing at all interrupts the polished surface of the walls and ceiling. There are no doors or windows, no lamps or lanterns, and yet the room is bright.
Before you have a chance to calm down or think about your situation, a person that you hadn't noticed before speaks out loud. He looks like a regular human peasant, with simple, but well-made clothing, and yet his voice is one of authority, one that clearly betrays the power behind it.
"Welcome, mortals. My name is Osin. Many of you might know me by different names though, as I have been called many troughout your history. You may remeber me as Hephaestus, Vulcan, Eitri, or Lugh. Some of you called me Ama-Tsu-Mara, Am-No-Tanabata-Hime and Benten, or maybe you know me as Mokualii, Ulaulekeahi or Kothar."
He continues his list of names - hundreds of them, although you only recognize one.
"Yes, mortals. I am the one that brought handwork to this planet. I am the one that thaught every species on this planet the secrets of smithing and pottery, the arts of sculpting and painting. I am, what you call, the God of Craftsmanship."
"The fact that you are here should make you proud. I have handpicked each and every one of you, as you are the finest in your field, the best this world have ever known. You come from different areas, different races, from different times even, but you have one thing in common: You are a true master in your craft."
"I, too, was once an esteemed craftsman. And one day my god of crafting visited me, just like I visit you now, to propose a challenge. I challenge you to a tournament, a battle of skills, a veritable clash of the titans, a game to single out the very best crafter of this world. And that person, and only that person, will learn the secrets I too have learned, and will rise to become a so-called god, for people just like you, on a world just like yours, and he or she will one day challenge the crafters of that world. And the cycle will start again."
"On to the challenge. You will know the exact rules by heart as soon as you accept. The challenge will take a long time, and put your skills as a crafter to the test, however no time will pass on earth, and afterwards, you will wake up like on any other day. The same goes for those who do not wish to accept. In fact, the only person who'll remember this as more than a dream is the winner."
"We will use my vessel - the Aglaia - to travel to countless worlds. Every one of you will gain powers beyond your imagination for the duration of the trip. You will craft things you didn't even thought possible. You will use materials referenced only in legend or lore. And you will fill the gallery of this ship with the greatest, most perfect collection of handwork in this universe."
"So, who's up for the task?"-
This will be my attempt at a massive forum game based upon Haika's massive forum game based upon crafting. I slightly altered the rules.
One cycle of gameplay will consist of 10 worlds, with 3 turns per world. A turn is consistant to one day, or one action, and is updated when I post.
Creators that join must choose a crafting skill. Examples include:
- Blacksmith
- Woodworker
You could also choose something less common, for instance:
- Garbage Artist
- Bone Enchanter
Or if you want to go wacky and crossbreed a pig with the white-throated tinamou:
- Geneticist/Animal Breeder
You can get creative with these, keep in mind that the source material you use should be rather common.
Crafters are, during the game, ascended to a sort of demi-godhood where they are much more powerfull, but must abide to His rules - especially those at the end of this spoiler.
Each turn, the creators awake will choose a main action. Your choices are GATHER or CRAFT.
Along with any sub actions, these include inventory management, equipment purchases and any spoken word, or flavor text. Roleplaying is not necessary, but it's fun nontheless.
Each main action will be accompanied by an attempt roll. This is a 1-100 roll I make using a random online roller. If you roll above 50 after any modifiers, you will succeed in your attempt. 10 or below is a critical fail, 91-100 is critical sucess, and will produce changes based on your action.
Modifiers will come from three sources.
- Skills raise your roll by a point per level. you need 100 experience in a skill to raise the skill level, and skills max out at level 40. You receive 5 free levels of the skill you choose at the start.
- Equipment also raises your roll by one point per level. You must pay 250 influence per equipment level to purchase. Equipment is limited to 50 levels, and at each 10 levels a test must be acomplished by a successful main action.
- Difficulty modifiers may be added by me, if I deem the action easy or difficult. This is usually 10-20 points added or subtracted.
Gather actions may be made with a single word action.
- You may choose to search for something specific. The roll will be more difficult if the item would be hard to find on the current world, however it will never become easier then a nonspecified 'gather'.
- Gather rolls will include an attempt, a quality, and a quantity roll.
- If the attempt roll is successful, a quality roll will be made to determine the total influence of the found item(s).
- After a quality roll, a quantity roll will be made, this roll will take the quality from it's roll, to produce the amount you find of the item. Minimum amount of 1.
- Attempt rolls will become gather experience at half the rate of the roll.
Craft actions need information on what you are crafting, and what source material you wish to use.
- You must use at least one item to create something, though you may add as many extra items as you wish.
- Craft rolls will include an attempt, a quality, and an influence roll.
- If the attempt roll is successful, a quality roll will be made. This roll, plus the influence of the source material, will determine total influence of the crafted item.
- Attempt rolls will become experience of the relative skill at the full rate of the quality roll.
Inventory is divided in Group Inventory and each player's Personal Inventory.
- Personal inventory has a max of 10 slots. (crafted items or stacks of raw materials, depending on size.)
- Group inventory has no maximum, but will be melted down for fuel at the end of the cycle and returned to an introductory amount.
- If a player wants to take something from the group inventory, he pays the amount of influence the item is worth.
- If a player puts something back in the group inventory, he receives that much influence.
- If a crafter has crafted something that he deems finished, and he doesn't want it to be used by others, he can place it in the ships Gallery. He will then gain the same influence as if he had placed it in the group inventory, and the item will remain in the Gallery forever.
The Rules of creation:
1. No sentience. Do not create any sort of sentient being.
2. You may only create one thing at a time. This is based on the item, a pair of matching mittens is fine, or even a 'suit' of armor. Something like, I'll make 50 guns this next turn. Will not be allowed.
3. You can create anything, Mundane, Magic, Science. As long as you use a source item to make it.
4. Damage to the Aglaia or her occupants will be deducted from the influence amount of the one who created such. IE: don't make something that will instantly harm everyone around you on purpose. like black holes, supernovas, portable stars, etc.
5. Repeated attempts at failed items are only allowed once. After that the ship will become bored with you, and require a different action.
6. Item ownership will come at a first post fire claim. If two people claim an item from group storage the first poster gets it. Personal inventory is only avaliable to the person who is holding the item, you may only use an item from someone else's inventory if they trade you the item as a sub action.
7. You cannot create items to make other items. No robots making robots, or making a wand with all your creative powers. There are limits to how far I will let you break the game, and it's best not to push them.
The point of the game is to have the most influence with Osin at the end of the cycle. The more influence you have when the challenge is over, the greater your chance of ascending to craftgodhood.
So? Interested? If so, post a name, a race if you want to, a starting skill, maybe write a short bio, and choose your first action. The first cycle will awaken 6 creators, one spot is reserved for Haika.
Personal inventories start out empty, and all exp and non-chosen skills start at 0, influence starts at 100.
Initial group storage contains:
5 oak logs. (Influence cost: 25 each)
2 blocks of white stone. (50 each)
