I just need a better CPU in general. I ahve good RAM and GPU, but my CPU is bottlenecking big time.

Depending on your mobo and socket type, you may need more than just a new processor. That's when I really started paying attention to hardware specs back in the day, when I tried to upgrade my processer and learned the joy that is hardware incompatibilities. Trying to upgrade my processor turned into having to upgrade my mobo, ram and video card, PSU and by extension, my case.

That also happens to be the same time I quit buying pre-builts.

I have never owned a prebuilt computer. My current mobo is brand-new and is a Socket 775.

In other news, I found a computer store close buy that sells brand-new parts at prices way below Newegg's.

Sorry for double post and bump, but here's a nice build I put together (virtually).

Anyone see any problems, mechanically?

EDIT: Derp, need RAM.

You're paying like $300 more for the 580 over the 560, for only a semi moderate improvement. And if you can afford that extra $300, you could probably just buy another 560 and do a SLI

I'm aware of that. Not the question I was asking, though - do you see any bits that will not work together, mechanically?

Also, I'll note that I do have two traditional HDDs already - the SSD is going to be my boot drive.

It works, but you're paying over double what I paid for my build and getting only a slight, if anything improvement.

Mind linking your build, then?

Can't really link it, but I can tell you what it is.

Motherboard: asrock extreme 1366 -$169
CPU: Intel i7 920 @ 3.6-4.6ghz  -$200
RAM: Kingston HyperX 12 GB DDR3 1600mhz -$70
Heatsink: Xigmatek/black knight cooler - $25 (about to be upgraded to corsair H50 watercooler -$30)
GPU: AMD Sapphire 4850 X2 single card (two 4850s on one card) - $190
Case: antec 900 2nd gen - $60
Hard drive - Hitachi and samsung 1TB 7200rpm - $80 each
(New today) SSD - corsair 60 GB sanforce 285mb/sec read/write - $70

Stuff I already had -
PSU: Corsair 750w TX - $90
G11 keyboard - $30
HP super-sensitive laser mouse - $15
Dell professional IPS 22 inch 1080p display for stunning color quality :D - $220

All of these? On sale. Newegg and when I worked at Fry's got discounted and pricematched for Microcenter. I didn't buy them all at once. The secret to saving money is watching slickdeals.net and being smart.

Minus the old stuff/monitor - I paid less than $900 for a computer that if I had bought prebuilt would have cost over $2000.

Could anybody recommend a good UK based supplier? My old P4 has served me well but I need an upgrade.
