Crank instinctively tried to backstep, but found himself rooted to the spot.  So much for escaping this  one- only one way forward.

Arcane blades again!  Expect that a lot since it's my only real offensive move!

((There's always options.))



Crank ... slices into the dark figure once again, knocking it off-balance and injuring it! No blood flows, but the figure .. is too stunned to move.

: "If you're really trying to not let the neverwas into this world, then I should help you. I.. I'm going to miss my friends though. Feels like I've had such little time with them after escaping the neverwas..."

Oh yeah, I know I have more options, but the only other true offensive one involves self-immolation, which I think I'll pass on for now.

HMR stands for Hazardous Materials Requisition, not Horrible Massive Ruination, though I can understand how one could get confused.
God help us if we have to agree on pizza toppings at some point. There will be no survivors.

... There's two doors. The one Fuzz is looking at is currently magically sealed - or is it? He could have sworn he heard a "click" a minute ago. Another open entrance looms over the area to the west, but there's no door on it. Poor Ochita, he tragically missed all this when he failed his searching roll.

Advantage: Crank.

Continue to Arcane Blade him into submission!



That was a lot easier than it looked. Before the ghastly figure can even move, Crank fires off another volley of Arcane Blades, ... ripping the foe. It disappears into the wind, a low yell echoing throughout the area. Crank gains 11 EXP. Crank has leveled up!

Choose between:
Deep Blue Magic: They say knowing is half the battle. Crank can spend a Major Action "bracing for impact." If he's hit by a magic ability or spell while in this condition, he has a chance to learn a component for his Admix Almanac from it.
Worldly Hardiness: Crank's travels have made him a much more powerful combatant. +2 to STR, +5 to HP.
Admix Insight: Crank's Admix Almanac spells can now level up using the same rules as regular abilities. +2 to INT.

Fuzz was conflicted; Zelda had told him to stay right there, but Ochita sounded like something really bad was happening...
He supposed he should wait at least a few more minutes before looking for her.

Check that bit of ground protruding from the water to the east.

I could have sworn I'd added that to the tutorial, but I guess I forgot it. Notice how many active abilities have "0/2 EXP" or something like that in their descriptions. These abilities gain a point of EXP every time you critically succeed using them. Sometimes it's just a stronger version of the same spell (as per the Magiflash upgrade a moment ago), but sometimes it's an entirely new thing.

By default, your Almanac abilities are not laid out this way (not being "known" and more "generated"), but with Admix Insight they too can grow stronger.

Strange... that one was hardly a threat, despite its apparent danger.  Crank mused on it... it must just be a fragment of the life force that once was here.

There were more practical considerations now, though.

I've also run enough battles that I think a game balance upgrade is in order. Right now the only way to gain new stats is through equipment and boring level up passives. This leaves everyone incredibly squishy because of the starting resource stats. So I think I'm going to just say "HP and MP increase by 1 per level."

Same goes for enemies.
