2d10The title makes it sound complicated, but it really isn't. Also, the players don't have to think about it much. Any action with a chance of success or failure (which is to say almost every action considering this is an RTD) requires a roll of 2d10. The total is compared to a target number called the "difficulty" (which normally hovers around 8-10 but increases or decreases depending on the action take) like so:
If 1d10 + 1d10 + modifiers >= difficulty: success!
If 1d10 + 1d10 + modifiers < difficulty: failure!
Criticals2d10 also weights itself around a total of 11, which I realize isn't very fun for the zaniness expected in RTDs. So instead, any time the result of both rolls is the same (4 + 4, 9 + 9, etc,) a CRITICAL ROLL will be initiated! In this case, a single 1d10 will be rolled like so:
1d10 + modifier > 5: CRITICAL SUCCESS!
1d10 + modifier <= 5: CRITICAL FAILURE!
However, a natural 2 is always a crit fail and a natural 20 is always a crit success. That gives about a 1 in 10 total chance of from 2d10, so I believe it's enough
Measure of SuccessBut without further zaniness, it would still be a simple RPG, no? Therefore, I will attempt to simulate the RTD scale of unfortunate results with Measure of success. Basically, this changes the results of actions based on how hard you fail or succeed.
-21 or more: Catastrophic failure!
-11-20: Unfortunate failure!
-1-10: Failure!
+0-10: Success!
+11-20: Gainful success!
+21 or more: Epic success!
Some rolls won't have extra results for the minor measures of success (especially combat rolls). Every dice roll counts, though!
