That's everyone then! Will hopefully have next turn up in appprrooxxxiimately less time than the last one took. As for Theros, you can talk to the mindless horde of NPCs, search for stuff lying around, etc.

Sorry kids I was just kidding with the MKWRTD thing. No more updates 'til 2012.

...nah, I've been putting something together, hoping to finish by the weekend because that's when I'm finally free from all my work. I've hardly even been able to play video games! This turn will be a little surprising.

Turns for this game are like fine wine-they taste better the longer they've aged.  :P

Unfortunately that creates a problem as realistically I'd need at least 100 more turns to finish the game.

But I don't mind. I've got this giant, elaborate story twisting around and behind all of the player characters. They only get the privilege of being soldier-like peons in one possible route through the fiction. Each turns brings something new for the players, but it also usually reveals something new about what's going on. In fact, at this point, I'd say that the original story (in the OP) is nearly obsolete.

Regardless, 4/6 turns done, some pictures done. Some full-color stuff this time, because of the party changes.

I don't mind turns taking a while, I just get worried when there's like a week of silence. ^^^;

Turn 33

Location: The Mushroom Kingdom
Time: Afternoon
Weather: Sunshine and Rainbows
Light: Plenty Enough

Turn Intro

Angry shopkeepers and powerful upgrades, oh my! But, in the background of this, something else entirely is happening.

Shop list

Spoiler: The Silversmithy (click to show/hide)

Turn Results

Red: Pacify the shopkeeper, then sell your obsolete weapon.

You wave your arms around a bit and attempt to pacify the angry shopkeeper. He backs off, and says he's sorry. Won't happen again, he says. Zachary's statement must have just struck a wrong nerve with the shopkeeper.

Either way, he heads back behind his counter, and you sell your bronze shortsword. He offers you 50 coins. That isn't much, but then again, it is just a bronze shortsword. You take the coins. Your work here is done. Now to see about the thorns...

Bradley: De-equip Spellbook of the Elements in preparation of combining it with the Spellbook of Light. Buy Spellbook of Light. If possible on this turn, use mini-forge to combine books, equip result.

You set in motion your master plan. First of all, you refuse the shopkeeper the mini-forge. Then you spend every single coin you have on a Spellbook of Light. The shopkeeper does not deny you! You grab the spellbook, unequip the Spellbook of the ElemGHRK

...oh, right. You don't unequip spellbooks. You unbind them, and that means they loosen their grip on your soul. Which, as you just discovered, is mildly painful.

For the next order of business, you... look at the mini-forge for a moment, and attempt to figure out how to use it. You easily figure it out, and find yourself in a state of understanding of the item. The two spellbooks float together in the air above the mini-forge, circling ever-closer to each other until they combine!

A few moments later, the mini-forge is gone, and you've acquired an
Advanced Spellbook of Flashes!

Oomph: Sell the Haunting Club.

You tell the shopkeeper a masterful tale about the Haunting Club, but he doesn't seem to believe it. Looks like he caught on much faster than those Podoboos. Oh well, he offers you 100 coins for it, just because of its special ability. That's definitely enough for iron armor. Do you take him up on the offer?

Fuzz: Now head to the magic shop. Might as well use that new MP.

You head out of Armor Shoppe, and down the road to the Magic Shoppe. You've always loved the market district. So many cool things, and so many merchants to compete with each other. Maybe one day you could become a merchant, after all of this is done.

While passing a few alleys, you hear a whispered voice.

"Fuzz," the voice says.

You look around. Where did that come from? Was it one of your friends?

"Cute one!" The voice is a bit louder this time, and you recognize the silhouette emitting it hiding behind some buildings in a dark alley. "Come over here for a minute."

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You leave the streets, and head in between two large shop buildings. The roofing of one of the buildings blocks the sun, and you can only just barely make out Grimtoad's face. A marked difference from the sunny pathways twisting around the main roads.

You ask him what this is all about. He inches closer to you. A little bit too close. You can see his face. He looks worried.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"You're not like the others, Fuzz," says Grimtoad. You don't know why you didn't see this all along. There's something that's just not right about him. "You need to know the truth. If you join me, and leave your group, I'll show you what's really going on around the Mushroom Kingdom."

This is a bit sudden. You can see Grimtoad's clenched teeth. He needs you to make a decision.

"You've got a choice: Stay with the Heroes and complete your little fetch quests, or join up me and let reality rock your world!" He smirks a little as he says this. You can tell that Grimtoad is not a patient person. It's almost as if he can't be seen here.

On a whim, you cave, and say you'll join him. He smiles.

"Good. I was hoping you'd accept," he says.

All of the sudden, he begins lifting his mushroom cap off.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Is that...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...Oh God.

Fuzz has left the party.

Zachary: Resist urge to be aggressive.

Seeing that the shopkeeper has already been pacified, you ask again if there's anything special for sale. The shopkeeper informs you that there WAS something special for sale, but it's been stolen. He says that the best thing he has right now is something called a "Mosaic Greatsword" with a powerful magic gem embedded in it, and it costs 800 coins. You don't think you can afford that. Oh well.

The shopkeeper does give you a description of this robbing pipsqueak, though. He says that the thief was golden-haired, blue-eyed and seemed eager to get on with whatever the heck he was doing. He went by fast, says the shopkeeper, but he appeared to be wearing some sort of tattered, beaten pink robe. You say that that sounds suspiciously like one of the royal family, and he says nah, if it were one of them it would have been Peach, but it wasn't her. He said the thief had a certain anger in his eyes which Peach never had, and was also somewhat taller than her. Besides, why would royalty steal from a common merchant?

You get the feeling somehow that this guy doesn't know that Peach has been captured. Which, obviously would make her even more unlikely a thief.

Joe: Head to the town gate.

You head to the town gate to wait on your friends. Beyond it, the brown-and-cream roads and buildings end abruptly, replaced with seemingly endless fields. You just hope that one of the Heroes before you has a map with them, and a good idea of where to go. You think you heard Fuzz mumble something about an "Aqua Resort".

Speaking of Fuzz, where'd he go? You haven't crossed paths with him in a little while.

An injured Toad soldier stands guard at the town gate with one missing arms. How did that happen?

Amadeus: Suddenly appear.

Like a flash, you're in the market district of the Mushroom Kingdom. You traveled all the way here after Podoboo 1 and Podoboo 2 told you of the tale of Omph and Bragely. You are convinced you must find Omph and assist him on his journey.

You have no weapons, but that's alright! Perhaps Omph could spare you one of his surely countless legendary clubs. You head in each shop as you pass them, but only a few of them have seen the Koopa you describe. Of course, they could be talking about any green Koopa Troopa, but you are sure you will find him!

Everyone looks a little surprised to see a lava creature of all things roaming the streets. You finally find Omph in the Armor Shoppe. However, he's not wearing golden, shining armor like Podoboo 1 said, nor is he wielding a large, diamond hammer called the Headbreaker like Podoboo 2 told you he would be! What is going on here?

Omph is about to sell one of his surely countless clubs. He hasn't noticed you. Perhaps you could greet him, praise him and bum the club off of him instead? (free stuff is always great!)

Player List

Spoiler: Red (Darvi) (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Oomph (Dwarmin) (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Zachary Jones (Zako) (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Joe (TherosPherae) (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Amadeus (Firelordsky) (click to show/hide)

Turn Outro

New faces gained, old faces lost. Amadeus is about to have his hopes and dreams crushed, whereas Fuzz has finally realized what's going on. Unfortunately, now Fuzz is tied to Grimtoad, so the Heroes probably won't be seeing him soon. But at least the roster is at six again. What timing!

Bradley winced. De-binding had hurt! At least he hadn't done anything really embarrassing, though, like mess up the mini-forge. He was pretty happy about that and examined his new spellbook with a smile. Once he finished binding it, he would head out to find Oomph and Red - avoiding Zachary and Fuzz, of course. Joe was probably all right, Oomph hadn't said anything about Toads carrying vacuum cleaners...

Bind that book! Then wander out to find the party.

Ahem- good to see how combining works.  Can you combine pretty much anything to get something?

Yes. In fact, that is the primary draw to playing Goombas, as such artefacts are as rare as if not rarer than Stars themselves.
