Small animals can phase through glass
« on: November 11, 2007, 01:53:00 pm »

I built a nifty green glass aquarium for my dwarves to enjoy, but the only aquatic critters I had were some toads a caravan had brought, so I went ahead and put them in. To my amazement, the toads swam right out through the green glass windows forming the aquarium walls. So windows are completely watertight, but somehow not verminproof.

For my part, I already saw turtles pass through locked floodgates.
Turtles will always fascinate me.

I think the problem is that the vermin are so small that accidental quantum tunneling happens. The same thing occurs with extremely dense microprocessors, the electrons can jump between channels.

Vermin aren't harmed by magma either (at least, I watched a squirel run around in a magma channel in the 2D version).

I see turtles phase into my underground farm and back out again all the time. (It's right next to the brook, but that's because the terrain type there was silt or something like that - you can't get in there from outside without going into the main fort entrance)
