I'd say 1 world at any given time.  The tricky part is that you can't (to my knowledge) delete a world in DF, you have to open the folder and delete it.  For similar reasons I'd suggest to cut back on the autosave method - we don't really need a new folder for every seasonal save.

You know, I really want to get in on this, but I really don't want to learn to play in ASCII. So, I'm posting to watch.

We've included a tileset (Mayday) for those of us who can't cope with the ASCII. You can always try that :)

Mego, I'd love it if you could be a Point of Contact for linux users.  Is that ok?  Did you get the TrueTypeFont tilesets working?  Do you have access to a dedicated linux box somewhere?  It would be great to get more servers up like Zeranamu's, so power outages or random failures don't cause all of DFMP to halt.

Err, sure. I'll get to work on making a Linux version for download. My laptop is dedicated Linux and stays on constantly, but there seem to be issues with DF and Linux that involve kernel panics (the Linux equivalent of a BSoD), at least for me. It could possibly be due to the tileset I use.

EDIT: I just noticed that Linux's PuTTY, unlike Windows PuTTY, lacks a Font option. I will do more digging to figure out what is required.

EDIT2: Read it backwards, Windows' PuTTY lacks the Font option. I have successfully made a Linux version, here is the download link. Note that I left all the Windows stuff in there, so that this can serve as the download for both Windows and Linux.

Because the file is a tar.gz, if you're not on Linux, you'll need a tool like 7-zip or Peazip to extract the files.

Out of curiosity what is needed to host a server? Can you do so with programs like haimachi or similar?

I love the idea, but unfortunately the lag is.. Well overwhelming.

DFterm2 is needed:

And having that port forwarded. Follow the instructions and you can have other people connect.

Do others here have notable lag moving around? My FPS in the various games is good but the lag is.. Well high.. Very high.. To the point its unplayable (IMO at least).  That said the idea is truly epic.

Since it's basically feeding you text, there's going to be lag.

Fair enough, it is a shame though.  Still, amazing achievement.

Could someone PM me detailed instructions on both how to join and how to set your own server up? Thanks in advance!

You should use Phoebus or Ironhand, they're better, also why are you using such a dated version of mayday?
