I had a brilliant idea. A "catch the wolf" in df thing. i will now present our protagonists:

The fortress is called : Gripwhips
It's the 9th of granite, year 172, Early spring.

Countess Zulban Rovodgigin (archfliers) (F)
Mayor Rith Oburineth (heroiccities) (M)
Captain of the guard Lor Bomreknekut (Whipsecret) (F)
Militia Commander Thob Okirinod (Eldergate) (M)
Manager Edem Mengkodor (Lasheddawned) (M)
Chief medical dwarf Olon Rulmonom (Mutepapers) (M)
Broker Logem nethustuth (balancedfenced) (F)
Bookkeeper Sibrek Asmelezar (Merchantsoldier) (M)
milita captain Nish Thizinod (fastengates) (F)

The population is of 138 dwarfs.
Of this, 20 are childrens.
The children who already died are the following:
Likot Udnomal a dwarven child, and Urist Kadolkastar, a dwarven baby.
Other deaths are the following:
Zulban isetherit, miner
ezum teshkadlogem, metalcrafter
momuz vathsithvucar, mechanic
litast akrunalzush, fisher
cerol loloktomem, miller
fikod zuntirlaz, fishery worker
thob uzolrulush, fisherdwarf
alath usancilob, woodcrafter.
And a Lamb (pet) and a dog (pet).

The military of the fortress is composed of 3 squads.
The captain of the guard is alone in one squad.
The other squads are made one by 10 dwarves and the other by 2.

Obviously no justice system will be posted, (too easy in that way).

It's a "one question for one answer" thing. I'll give the most general answer i can, so be specific with the question (no, who's the killer or the like obviously).

Let's see if the killer will be catched or not.
No random guessing.
I just presented the main protagonists, but it doesn't mean the killer is amongst them.
Who will find the killer first? or will he manage to kill more and more childrens?
let's see how you fare against an unknown baby killer.

The first Hint, for the first day of the culprit searching.

Through diary form, obviously.
Diary of Ezum Teshkadlogem
I was asked to smelt galena and tetrahedrite from the higher ups, for silver and copper.
I'm quite wondering what are we going to do with it, we already are at full storage capacity, we're even sleeping with the armok damn silver and copper bars!
I usually visit the grand tomb made to commemorate the deaths of those who the forgotten beast killed, in the mining shaft, a couple of years ago, Zulban Isetherit was asked to mine and open a breach directly in the caves, where a flying hornet like beast was seen. He died from it's poison, to think just a couple of days before we already had the tragedy of Likot, poor children, we found him dismembered, like a beast had killed him and eaten him, and mawed him, body parts were everywhere. Near the trade depot. Now i'm going to stop writing, i have to work on smelting this things.

Hint number 2
Eyewitness for the murder of Likot
"well, ya see, i was jus going down the road next to the depot, and just moved near the door for the, you know, the stockpiles, when i heard a savage scream. I froze on myself and thought it was about bein sober and all, so i drank a full load of dwarven ale and went back on my steps.
that's when i tripped and fell.
i swear it, something terrible had happened. the body of the fellow was like, smashed against the wall, and it's arm was, well, the thing on which i tripped!!! it was terrible, really, really terrible, who would do such a thing??"
"hmm...yes. you may go now" this was not going to be an easy case. Something wasn't quite right. Somebody had to know something, but what?

Let's give a push to the DF community:
Who should be interrogated now? a noble, a farmer category dwarf, a fisherdwarf, or who?

“Well,” he said. “We’re in the Forgotten hunting grounds I take it. Your screams just woke them up early. Congratulations, Lyara.”
“Do something!” she whispered, trying to keep her sight on all of them at once.
Basileus clapped his hands once. The Forgotten took a step forward, attracted by the sound.
“There, I did something. I clapped. I like clapping,” he said. -The Investigator And The Case Of The Missing Brain.

138 dwarves is going to make the pinpointing hard.

it's all a asking the right questions thing.
for example, asking who has the alibi or who hasn't.
where were the hammerlords at the time of the death? or where were the farmers?
these kind of questions reduce the number of culprits.
>.>
and it's not like one can ask only one question, it's just that, for each question, you get one answer.
So asking "what happened yesterday?" gets you the answer "nothing happened"
but asking "what happened yesterday in the dining room?" "dwarves came by and eat."
going to post the fortress layout and murder scenes soon.

Here are all the pics if you want more just ask

for the murder scenes, the X marks the dead body spot.

It was the hammerer. He's the only dwarf that kills other dwarves.

Hint number 3:
Little overheard chat in the meeting hall
"come on, please, i'm begging you, give me another chance!" *says a female voice.
"no is no, you know it, i have found a better woman"
"you just met her when she came with the bloody migrants! she's a potash maker! how can she be any worth?!"
"now listen there! and what makes you think you're better?!"
"for one thing, i'm a *loud noise*!"
"precisely! there's no need to point out all *other loud noise* daily!!"
"please, we know each other for so long..."
"NO. I'm marrying her and popping a child out. And that's it"

*end of hint*

Uristmcminer:"why must be dig a shaft next to the dining hall boss?"
mcminer2:"no clue, just to make noise. i guess"
"aye".

"you know, we spoke a little, he said something...something like this:

"got a hell of a batch of mechanism to be built today"
"ya know why?"
"aye. there's a ton of bridges and levers to be built. Floodgates and such."
"still, how many have you to build?"
"14 maybe"
"ya sure?"
"could be wrong of a couple though"
"if ya say so"
"look at the time, have to go to work, see you later"

then i never saw him again. Pity"

i am going to ask a couple of questions

who discovered the forgoten beast?

where there any othere dwarfs nearby?

how was the forgotten beast slain?

while the soldiers where killing the beast who where left behind to defend the workers?

question the miners about the baby killing.

the forgotten beast was discovered by the announcement far before the miner in question opened the chasm. it was reported because there was a hatch which leaded directly under to the beast. But the hatch was kept closed.

other miners were nearby, but everyone of them was ordered to dig other sides, so only Zulban was near the beast.

the military squad intervened, but took their time in dressing up properly before descending. So only adfter he died di they actually reach the FB and dispatched it with ease. (the beast was named ANU) and was killed by a classic smashing of the head.

the workers evacuated to borrows.
but only after Zulban died.

The miners know nothing. one simply states that Zulban was pondering something with the metalsmiths, and that left him with some doubts.

hint number 5
Alath was last seen cutting trees next to a pond.
He was chopping the tree for wood, which was direly needed since they had yet to reach magma.
While chopping the wood, alath saw something, with the back of his eyes. A figure covered in rags carrying something. Maybe a new migrant. He didn't even turn to say hello that a bolt jotted right through his throat. Killing him.
The covered in rags thing continued towards the pond and was about to threw something inside, when she saw a fisherman passing by.
She left the thing there and hid behind the tree.
"oh for armok, what do we have here...Alath, is that you!? oh my god who could have don..."  *SMACK. a clear crack to the skull, and even litast fell to the ground.
The pool was too crowded for this job, so the figure went back...

nope.
The woman mentioned in the last quote is single. and while she had a "friend" that friend ended up becoming lover+marriage of another dwarf.

The women who's talking has been recognised as the Countess.
But her alibi is that she was always in her rooms when deaths occurred. OR outside planting crops.
the dead miller testified for her.
