Removing Above-Ground Surface Pebbles?
« on: June 25, 2011, 06:41:41 am »

On my current embark, i didnt realise i embarked into a complete flat Plain area, so i decided to make a Above-Ground fort. But right now, im failing to be able to make large farms due to the Stone Floor pebbles and tiles getting in the way. The only thing i could think of doing was chucking water ontop of them to place mud, but theres no fresh water in this embark.

Is there a way to get rid of these Pebbles and tiles?

(Don't attempt to answer that.  Down that path lies ... well I was going to say madness but you all run towards madness as if it was made from chocolate and puppies.  Just forget I said anything.)

You'll have to muddy it, which's not hard. If you have a few Z's of soil, you'd be better off channeling and covering it with a floor and farm under it.

Building a floor over the offending pebbles/boulders and then removing it will leave furrowed soil, IIRC.

Just tried that, didnt work.

what it DID do was remove the pebbles, but simply left a stone tile in its place. I had Mudstone Pebbles, now i have Mudstone.

Darn. I know I've had furrowed soil left behind after constructing something and then removing the construction. Now I just have to figure out what it was.

I want to farm above-ground crops to keep in the midset of a above-ground town.

I just tried putting a workshop on the offending tile, didnt work. it simply stayed the same after de-construction.

It will still be above ground if you channel it. It will just be in a hole in the ground.

Exactly this, and if you don't want to dig, you can just construct a stair, use pond zone to dump water on the rock bit, to muddify it.

You brilliant person, that works!

Its going to take awhile to do this for my farming area, but its quick enough!

Thanks a heap!

EDIT:

To clarify, i had been dumping water on the square, but no mud was being made. When i dumped the water from a level above, however, it worked.

And finaly, as a ironic note, i figured out what building replaces stone with furrowed dirt.

Its a farm.
