Making dye?
« on: June 24, 2011, 12:47:39 pm »

I think I'm missing a step in the dye making process. I'm trying to dye my steel armor and weapons. The military screen gives me an option to only allow my troops to use the exact item, material, and color but I haven't found out how to dye the armor and weapons.

I send my workers to gather all the plants on the map but the dye workshop only seems to have the options of dying cloth and thread. Am I missing something?

Only cloth and thread can be dyed.

Correct; there really should be some option for painting things with pigments, but at the moment only cloth and thread.

Is the color option on the military screen not usable at the moment?

Sure it works, but only when applied to things that can have that color (which excludes armor for the moment). You can assign every squad a matching color cloak and shirt or whatever.

It might work for non-hard outfit, if you use cloth for that. Never tried it myself, despite running quite a dye industry half the time.

In the older version there was a way to make thread out of metal but I think it was taking out?

Not exactly.  In the current version the process of making adamantine involves first extracting adamantine threads from raw adamantine ore.  These are then smelted to make adamantine wafers.  Alternately, they can be made into adamantine cloth, if you feel like wasting adamantine.  I don't know if adamantine cloth can be dyed, I've never bothered making it.

My limited experience with this has resulted in dyed adamantine not being smeltable...  Then again, adamantine threads are rather bugged at the moment anyway, so who knows, it may work for you.
