Okay, so I've mentioned that this character is doing well. TOO well. I decided to see how far I could push it.
Turns out...
pretty far.I found a hospital. I went inside. In a room near the lobby, centrally located, I encountered a group of three Boomers. "Christ," I thought, "Time to spend some molotovs." I lit a lethal cocktail and threw it in the doorway, so that the beasts would charge through it blindly and kill themselves. My ignorance in that moment would set in motion a harrowing chain of events.
Three 'Booms' later, I'm patting myself on the back. But not for long... I notice the fire is considerably spreading. I just set a hospital on fire. Uh... whoops.
But I figure I have some time before the entrance gets enveloped in flame, so I bravely headed down the west wing, checking rooms for interesting loot as I went. I discovered the place to be
full of Boomers, and Spitters too, but at first, I wasn't too worried. I had my trusty spears and a few knives; I could pick them off from a distance with little effort.
As I explored the hallways, surrounded by sounds of doors being thumped and smashed, I suddenly realised I'd gotten myself a bit... surrounded.
Evaluating my chances, I decided that heading west would be the safest bet. I took two steps west, and...
...Ah. After
re-evaluating my options, I saw that my only chance to get out was the smashed door to the south. But this would be leading me south- directly
away from the exit. If Cataclysm had sound, I'm sure the roaring echo of the flames would be making me run cold with sweat.
With no other choice, I narrowly escape through the wrecked doorframe. I get slimed, but the effect is temporary. As I stumbled further in, I am chased by what seems like an army.
Look at my minimap. I am at the very southern part of the building now, and the exit/entrance is to the very north. Between me and my escape route, there is a fire raging out of control.
Most of the enemies seemed to be in chase now, which means I encountered fewer resistance from the east as I attempted to circle my way through the entire building and back up through the east wing. I fend off more boomers and spitters, the latter melting my spears 'til they had cracked and frayed with damage.
I was nearing the exit, but the fire had spread everywhere. Through thick, choking smog, I stumbled through the lobby.
There was the door. I threw myself outside.
I... I made it. I motherfucking
made it.
