my American family members are all dead (yes, I'm the only one of two still-living members, not counting a half-sister I've never met. Thankfully, my cousin just had 2 kids. Woo!) but we come from a military background. Brazilian family is mixed between military, doctors and businessmen. BIG family. Grandma had 18 kids, her 17 siblings had 16-20 kids, all of them have 1 to 5 kids, half of them have kids... 16 aunts and uncles still living, not counting their spouses. My uncle Marcio is a surgeon and his ex-wife is a dentist, Leonel owns two or three mechanic shops, Tia Eugenia a teacher who's husband is a geologist/demolition expert, Tio Ka owns a factory, Tio Frank and his wife own a bar and restaurant, Tia Beatriz owns a designer clothing chain, Tia Marcia just sold her Spa in Brazil and moved back to America, and more.
Of course, not all is perfect. One of my uncles is Schizophrenic who's son is a crack-dealing gang assassin, the other grew up treated as a retard but has an above-genius IQ yet never emotionally or psychologically aged past 15, and one is an alcoholic drug addict who lost a fortune, his wife and his kids and subsequently lived on the streets for two decades.
Yep, weirdly complicated family.
Too bad most of them are ignorant greedy back-asswards religious-nut douchebags. That's why my mother and a few others left the family behind and moved to America, to get away from our crazy-ass family.
