7 OOC: noticed that last chapter had no quote.
Cheveux's diary
Limestone, yr 3 of Starwound
I appreciate being the fortress' weaponsmith and all, it's nice to be recognized. But it's just so painful to know that any blade must be a masterpiece, or the metal will be wasted. I'm not sure if Katana was joking when he said he'd lock me out if I failed to make that aoryl longsword. The pressure just gets painful, really. Nobody makes perfect masterpieces every time... Nobody. At least I'm only screwing up with the serrated disks.
Should I have been a farmer? No, that would just make me expendable. I guess everything good comes with a price. Plus I wouldn't get to work with atyl or longswords... Maybe if I had been a carpenter I'd at least get to work with blood thorn... No... Being a weaponsmith was a good idea.
Sandstone, 3
We'll build the "atom smasher" that jaxy proposed, and then a sealed off area where any "migrants" will be isolated before being pit against a variety of enemies. Cheveux will make a ryl longsword for them to use. Dsarker is actually producing quite a few masterpieces, but we all agree she's not quite ready to make armor for the soldiers.
Near the end of the month, the "atom smasher" designed by Jaxy was complete.
Timber, 3
Rith the hunter had his right hand bitten off by a giant olm. Which he then killed. Well, brought extremely close to death. He basically ignored the wound and carried on hunting. He even helped dump items. When we finish, we'll be able to begin on the migrant "arena". An ancient ettin was spotted, and quickly killed. Suddenly, ambush! Bowmen! Civilians, get inside or get shot!
Right. Stay calm, it's only a squad.
ANOTHER AMBUSH!Oh great, now there are lashers too. Let's get out th- and there are more. And more. And more... Hopefully the caravan guards will help! They're too far. This is going to be hard. And to think I slept through it all...
Ilral (mechanic/siege operator) was killed, and many of the military wounded. A caravan guard was also killed. It was a painful month, but Starwound lives on. Then, NRDL picked the perfect moment to go fey.
Moonstone, 3
OOC: sudden FPS drop is worrying D: On the bright side atom smashing brought the FPS up by 12.
A deadstone millstone. How nice. The first baby of the fortress has grown to be a child, Atomic Avocado and Califier's son. Cheveux has now made a ryl longsword, masterwork of course. This, along with a gryl breastplate, will be given to any migrants.
Opal, 3
Mid winter. I'm expecting some more of those ryl things to arrive.
Cheveux's diary
Opal 3rd,
I'm so scared. I messed up on making aoryl battle axes! Katana mustn't know that I wasted the precious metal. Melt it, quickly! Agh! Why can't I get this right? I give up, I'm not ready to handle that metal... Longswords are the only thing I can make really. Katana's too busy sparring, maybe he won't notice the smaller amount of aoryl in the stockpiles.
Opal 7th,
I can't believe it! I couldn't even make a perfect atyl battle axe! But I thought I knew atyl so well... I envy the hunter. He can shoot all he wants and nobody cares as long as he brings back anything. And everything I have to do has to be perfect. I hope I'll get something out of this.
Dsarker gave birth to another child, a girl this time. We've been promoted to a barony! I'm recommending Cheveux for all his work. One of my bolts disappeared, probably due to a bad shot by the hunter. It was a masterwork, but I've made more... Conan now has another child, a girl.
Strangely, a sapphire man diplomat arrived, said we had carved out a nice place, and left... Through the caverns. Although they do live in caverns, so the last part isn't that strange. But still... Was he implying something?
Obsidian, 3
Was that something in the distance? Or am I just being paranoid... Then I heard NRDL scream TROLL! It was quickly dealt with. Cheveux asked for more stuff, a child grew up, life went on...
Then we found a plump helmet man holding a bag and wearing a mask inside one of the entrance cage traps. Followed by:
My squad goes to meet the swordsmen, Conan, you lead the defense. If they ever reach that. And then we were ambushed by... Plump helmet men. Wow. Next time we should try to kill them closer to the entrane so there's less hauling. And then...
and upon its death...
And then an ancient ettin ambush. Which, surprisingly, was the most normal thing to happen this month. I've been feeling uneasy, and Ifeno seems to agree... As expected, another ambush. Or two. They always seem to attack while I sleep. One hammerdwarf died, and another was wounded. And a... cavy... died of old age.
