Lol.

2 Anyway, Conan and Atomic Avocado got married. But not to each other.

Sandstone, 1
Uhm. Not sure what to do. Let's try digging a pasture area. Oh, and we finally got some wood cut. Now we can get some beds. Oh right! Now I remember what I forgot! A dining room! Let's dig out a dining room in the deadstone.

Timber, 1
The merchants arrived. Oh wait. What will we trade to them... Um.. Make some lead goblets or something! Quick! We managed to trade 3 goblets for some wood, a bag, and a splint. Make more before they leave!
OOC: slimes that wandered onto the map took 40 FPS. Lol.
Somehow a giant cave swallow had been spotted inside the fort. I went down to kill it with our only weapon. Meanwhile, sand and stuff like that was bought.

Moonstone, 1
Well, it's winter now. The year has gone by smoothly, and I'm keeping the doors tightly shut from now on. Conan is terrible at hunting slimes, he just kills them and ruins all the usable skin. I managed to take some of the guard's equipment without them noticing. From the liaison I requested:
-Weapons grade metal
-Anvils
-Lye
And of course, wood. I saw Cheveux talking to the carpenter leatherworker person, and some time later I'm given a wooden sword. Back to the flesh blobs apparently.

Cheveux's diary
Now that we can get wood from the caverns, it looks like I can get something even duller than silver! Well, the carpenter will do the actual crafting. Flesh blobs are great for this: They're slow moving boulders of meat. Worst thing that happens is it pushes you and bruises your arm or something. The annoying part is you don't learn how to avoid attacks... I recently heard that Conan and some other person wanted to join the military.
Apparently Conan has issues with attacking from a distance. Calls it the coward's way, although he probably just has bad aim. I came down to watch katana for a second, and he seems so different. Multiple times as fast as any dwarf I've seen.

Opal, 1

Alright, we're drafting whoever wanted to be drafted. Conan hates hunting, so he can join in the flesh blob slaughter. I'm really getting thirsty though. Eventually, the thing bled to death. Took weeks. On the bright side I'm so much better with a sword now. Annoyingly, the other military dwarves couldn't find any flesh blobs, so they killed naked mole dogs. Which died too fast to give any good training.

Obsidian, 1
We need more food storage. Let's drastically expand.

Granite, 2
Another year. Winter went by without any changes really. Hopefully now the elves can bring us something useful.

OOC:
And guess who's our first mood?

Hell yeah! Cheveux woulda been better for the fortress, but this is awesome anyway.

Katana's diary
I can't let anyone know what I'm planning. They shouldn't. What if they found out? I can't kill them! I just have to be quiet. Can't talk to anyone, just in case I accidentally reveal something. It will be amazing...

What. Why's everyone looking at me like I'm crazy. Anyway, Conan and Atomic Avocado got married. But not to each other. Oh yeah and apparently, we caught a giant cave swallow in a cage.

Slate, 2
Digging out more galena. Cheveux wants something to practice with. Jaxy started screaming about troglodytes
so we went down to take care of them.

Felsite, 2
We just ran out of bones. Wow. I think I'll try out training animals. Oh wait, nothing to train. The elves are here. A kobold thief was spotted, that's normal really.

What did they bring? A lot of useful stuff actually. But I hate them. So pass me that silver longsword. The mounts and the representative can live. This year.

Hematite, 2
Humans are better. They always have precious ethylmetal. Dsarker and Cheveux are now married as well. And just when things are peaceful.

Wait, that was a creature? I thought it was just part of our lake. Better be careful.

Malachite, 2
Can't find it anymore. Maybe it swam (floated? Melted?) off. In other news, flesh blobs were spotted in the caverns, so everyone else rushed down there to train themselves. Oh yeah and I'm going to mint lead coins every year, and Cheveux has decided to give up on mining for some reason.

Galena, 2
Everything's going perfectly, when suddenly...

An ambush. By a fully armed goblin squad. Not sure if I personally can get up there in time, I'm all the way down at the caverns.I understand we've almost become legends, but can three legends with sticks destroy an armored unit? Honestly, I'm not sure. Oh who am I kidding.

(Unconscious/dead goblins. The rest ran away.)
The goblins were slaughtered. Oh and apparently the moment the ambush came, the humans did too. Here comes the metal!!! Anyway, there sadly was not much metal. To get a better understanding of a sword, Cheveux has asked for permission to train as a swordsdwarf for a brief period of time. If it means we get actual swords, I have no problem with that. In other news, we've caged flesh blobs, and a giant mole. The blobs will be put into a re-usable dummy training area, and the mole will be kept for my plans.

Limestone, 2
Cheveux has become pretty good with a sword, and now feels he can make better ones. He began by making a longsword with his favorite metal, atyl (something he could work with easily). About a day later...

Followed by another.

And another.

(Yes it's the same image three times.)
Alright Cheveux, you've proven you can make your favorite weapon. Now make us axes for the other two soldiers or something. Oh and NRDL got married to a farmer. Apparently Cheveux is refusing to let us touch the swords until the metalcrafter has studded them with lead.

Sandstone, 2
We got our swords. Avocado wanted to dual-wield for some reason. Now where are the shields- wait we don't even have an armorsmith! What if we make Dsarker our armorsmith? Doesn't look like anyone will come to the fortress. Does this mean Dsarker will request permission to beat up the flesh blob with a backpack or something?
Ah well. Let's worry about that later. Conan and that other axedwarf still haven't got their axes, and Cheveux is now on break. Can't blame him.

Timber, 2
OOC: wow, long update.
Yeah the dwarves arrived.

@ztyler: you're married to the other axedwarf in the military (not Conan), and have a son.
@jaxaleone: already on it.
@nrdl: You're a high master miner, proficient in all social, and expert mason. Almost never sick, high stats, but slow to heal.
Anyway, my update #3 wasn't posted for some reason (weird connection issues and having to leave quickly may have something to do with it) and I finally have enough time to update now. Nothing important happened really, we just bought stuff from the caravan, Dsarker became main armorer, and that's it. Ifeno, I've increased the pop cap by 5 so we can get a migrant for your dwarf.
4[/u] It was like butter! Except colder. And the "butter" was heavier. And wait, what's butter anyway?

Conan now has a son. Not much else has happened really. There was an ambush (gremlins), quickly dealt with. I was just thinking, what if we dismembered enemies, would I be "morally" (more like "legally") allowed to carve the bones? There were some flesh blob issues, although nobody was injured. The engraver was just scared of them. Then suddenly, kumil screamed snatcher. At first, we thought it was just a goblin. Then we noticed.

Is that thing even alive? Jaxy, now experienced in all fields of engineering apart from pump operating, told us it wasn't. It looked like someone, or something had created this "creature" with a mechanism. The same mechanisms we use to make traps, levers, wells, all that stuff. After death (destruction?), the creature collapsed into the mechanics it was made from.

Well, it looks like it was made out of ryl. We could melt this down... But as any other snatcher, they work in groups. As requested by the weaver, we will build a loom so spider webs could be gathered (?). Suddenly, an ambush of... two heads.. Ettin? Yeah, ettin. Wait, ettin aren't meant to form groups. Or have weapons. They're too busy arguing with the other head for that. Right? Avocado told Kumil to run back and protect their son. While annoyed with this, she realized it was the right thing to do. And ran. The wrong way. Dropping her equipment as well. At least there wasn't another ambush waiting.
These things are ettin, that's for sure. But they act so different from the ones in stories. Plus, these things were pretty good at fighting, not clumsy, pathetic creatures.

Granite, 3
Yay, another year! Random fact:
We have 1313 units of grimy liquid, out of our 1938 alcohol stocks. I thought I'd be able to get away from the stuff by making a new settlement...
More importantly, Dsarker has given birth to a boy. I've noticed that she's created many exceptional works, but no masterpieces yet. Right when I say that.

It's a gryl breastplate by the way.
Katana!
What.
A snow storm has come!

Tell me something I don't know. It just occurred to me that some of us may die. Therefore I am going to create a large graveyard should anything unfortunate happen. Like that chain of tantrum-related deaths back in the mountainhomes, it killed 115 of us.

Slate, 3
Kobold thief. I think you can guess what happened. As much as I hate to use sub-par equipment, I really think we need some sort of protection against enemies beyond our dodging and blocking. So, one ryl chain robe for each of us. Then, migrants!
1: Sodel, tanner (female)
Just another migrant.
2: Ilral, siege operator (female)
A high master siege operator. Interesting, but not so useful since we have Jaxy.
3: Ifeno, swordsdwarf (male)
Wanted to be in the military, so I gave him a sword. Maybe he'll be a captain some day.
4: Edzul, engraver (male)
He works with stone, and can continue doing that.
5: Sarvesh, consoler (female)
Is consoler even a job? You can be a speardwarf in the training squad of the military or something. The our trader starts acting strangely. Apparently like how I acted when I was making that animal trap. The guy took a piece of tower cap and got to work. I think he'll make a bucket. He likes buckets. Instead, he creates a door. Well, doors are nice. Especially wooden ones. We could always use more bait.

Felsite, 3
The elves arrived. Plus... Sapphire men? The elves brought us what I wanted, but screw them anyway. Kill them all!

Oh and the sapphire men. They brought some pretty valuable, metal, "aoryl", they called it. It was amazing how they seemed to be swimming in the stuff. The hammerman even brought a hammer made of the stuff "as a joke". As a joke? They say it's one of the sharpest metals in the world. Well, let's test this. Picked up one of the bolts and tried scratching a bar of atyl. It was like butter! Except colder. And the "butter" was heavier. And wait, what's butter anyway?
Before leaving, they warned us about their brothers. Whatever that means. Oh and some "master thieves" were mutilated. The sapphire men gave us their aoryl equipment, they brought it as a joke, who uses super light bolts and hammers anyway? Anyway, Cheveux, make me a sword out of this. If you fail. I will kill you.
I hope he doesn't realize I'm not serious. Anyway, yeah, he loves longswords so we got a masterpiece. This'll be my sword... :) Anyway, our metalcrafter now also wants to try combat experience. To get better at precisely whacking stuff. Or something. Ah well. She'll have to wait, Ifeno is still whacking that thing. There was then an ambush of goblin crossbowmen. Ah it was hilarious how far their limbs went flying. And the blood...
Another ambush, and I realized that G was injured slightly by the goblins. Just a skin wound, no worries.

:O ANOTHER ONE.

Anyway, right now the military system is just a jumbled mess of three (four counting the civillian flesh blob mauler) squads. There's no order to it, and the only non-elite soldier is our speardwarf/consoler peasant.

Hematite, 3
Kumil changed her name to Califier. I have no idea why. Sarvesh the consoler is now a speardwarf, and will lead any new recruits from now on. For some reason, she ended up with a bruised liver. G is now back to work in the farms. Some snatcher was decimated while trying to steal the newly-named Califier's baby. Unfortunately, our weaver had been caught by a troglodyte while gathering webs and was killed.
I'm not giving that thing a quick death. It'll be killed by the executioner's blade. Revenge!

While she died, another was born.

NRDL has a daughter.
OOC: FINALLY a death. Was getting bored of having a massive "graveyard" space empty.
And then, migrants. Wait, didn't we say no more? Ah well, let's see.
1: Rith, hunter (male)
A pretty skilled hunter. He'll be useful.
2: Dastot, "administrator" (female)
You're useless. You may now train as a hammerdwarf.
3: Dishmab, spinner (male)
You're a high master, but our military needs more people. Another hammer!
4: Libash, axedwarf/bonecarver (female)
I have no idea where to put you. A great axedwarf, but also a very useful bone carver.
5: Kubuk, farmer (female)
You can have a training spear.

And now we are 33.

Malachite, 3

For some reason no dwarf has ever invented the training hammer. So instead we make recruits bash stuff with crossbows.

Random OOC announcement
Does anybody have some ideas that could be made into a game? Awesome pickles of doom trying to kill the bananas that are invading, what really happens to a dwarf during combat, etc. Just some little mini-game type ideas.

Malachite, 3

It just occurred to me that we don't actually have any spears. Multiple naked mole dogs were caught by our cage traps while trying to invade us. For some reason, I have a feeling we're going to be ambushed soon.
OOC: SUDDENLY, FPS DROP!

Galena, 3
There was a slight naked mole dog issue, and Jaxy ran the wrong way. Luckily, nothing more dangerous than a giant rat was in the first cavern layer at the time, so he lived. Hopefully the next dwarf that reloads a cage trap does not turn around and run right through the creature they're scared of to get away.
Cheveux has been acting really nervous lately, maybe he's under a lot of pressure because he's got to make every weapon a masterwork. Sucks for him! Well, he can practice on the gryl or something I guess.  For some reason we found this supposedly human snatcher. Aren't the humans meant to come and trade, not steal our children? Whatever happens next, the thing was promptly bisected. Looking through some history engravings, Dsarker found that they were "triggerhapps", strange human-ish creatures that love to kill stuff. Sounds like a taller goblin. She also seemed very shaken by something else she had found, but said she didn't want to talk about it.
OOC: Hm, I thought I removed the demon civ.
Libash, bone carver, went fey and used some piglet bones for something. That's all I know actually. The sapphire men were back again, but strangely, no humans? A few days later, the humans came. I've noticed that while the sapphire men will bring ore, they do not bring any metal but aoryl. Their reason: "It is not like other metals. Even the deep one..."
Well that was a bit strange. It's a lot like every other metal to me, except it's light and sharp and stuff. While looking for more stuff to trade, I noticed that Libash (bone carver) was demanding for rough gems. We have loads! Go take some! Oh wait, you need blocks? SOMEBODY MAKE SOME BLOCKS! I don't think we have much longer! She's already started to act a bit depressed, yet angry at the same time. And she's talking to herself. Luckily, we made it and she began work on whatever she was planning.
The humans had brought quite a bit of ethyl, along with other metals, just like we'd ask. Meanwhile, the sapphire men had what we needed, but we didn't have what they needed. Cheveux was desperately making serrated disks to offer them, but each disk only bought a bar.

Limestone, 3
The sapphire men's stuff has made me realize that we need a better source of income. Muthkat, farmer, had suggested cooking. Seems like a decent idea, let's turn all our meat into some meals. Annoyingly, she refused to cook grime caps, just like everyone else. We ended up with a pig bone bin, nothing really worth mentioning, from this fey bone carver. Although it had a picture of my artifact on it. A lucky masterpiece by the currently near-insane Cheveux had gotten us an extra bag of star spawn. Cheveux really needs a break... Hey before you have your br- oh nevermind.

Over the next month, there was much hauling to do. Meanwhile, a snatcher was mauled by the entire military, along with the caravan guards. It was over quickly, as you may have guessed. Jaxy has proposed that we clean up the entrance with an "atom smasher", and get rid of all that stupid oversized clothing. Well, nothing wrong with a good first impression for any ambushers coming. We had some migrants, strangely.
1: Zulban, armorer (female)
She's a talented armorer.
2: Zuglar, carpenter (female)
Brought a steel battle axe with her.
3: Ingish, glassmaker (female)
A glassmaker.
4: Mesthos, bone doctor (male)
A very good doctor here.

And now there are 37 of us. Ingish will join the military as a speardwarf, zuglar as a hammerdwarf. Zulban will not be doing anything but hauling unless she somehow becomes a legend instantly. Mesthos is a great doctor, and so he's allowed to do what he currently does (wound dressing and bone doctor). I will execute any more migrants, just so the mountainhomes get the message.
OOC: any execution ideas?
Our bone doctor wants to learn some bone carving, so I let him use the massive stockpile we currently have. Just a quick count of our military:

Legendaries:
3x swords
2x axe

Experienced:
1x spear
1x axe

Newbs:
Can't be bothered.
