There were so many of them... So many arrows... So much blood...
Well, it's over now. Well, not exactly "over", but they're gone. So many wounded, a lot of the military got back up while half dead just to keep us alive. Katana was shot, fell down, and instead of letting somebody rescue him, he just got back up and continued hacking at those two-headed beasts. We don't have enough thread to treat most of the people, so many of us are just lying in the makeshift hospital, hoping that we'll live. Even if we live, will it be worth it? This was clearly just the beginning of our troubles... And the hunter. He hardly knew us yet threw himself out there to buy time. Ilral, we'll always remember you.

I can't believe Dsarker chose now to have a break. We've got a full hospital and all she cares about is relaxing? I know you hate helping people Dsarker, but if you don't treat these guys we're all dead! I'm also thinking of ways to reduce injuries, especially military ones. I'm deciding on ryl as the military uniform metal, so I'm ordering for that to be made. The complete uniform of a typical soldier:
Ryl helm
Ryl breastplate
Ryl greaves
Ryl high boots
Ryl gauntlets
Cap steel chain cloak
Cap steel chain robe
Copper shield
Ryl Longsword/battle axe/spear or Gryl hammer/mace
Hopefully this provides sufficient protection against enemies. We finally managed to get some thread for suturing, maybe our wounded will be better now. Quintijn has a badly hurt toe, but insists that he's fine to continue. Dsarker finally stopped being on break when she heard about the new thread. In other news, our well is complete. There were reports of a troll rampaging through the fortress, it seems the caverns had been breached and then ignored. Can't blame anyone about forgetting stuff after what just happened to us. GIANT CAVE SPIDER! The military were merciless after seeing what that monster had done to a poor weaponsmith. In the final moments of its life, it had been given the name Igathkizbiz.
We must learn from this, so from now on the only way down to the caverns must be heavily defended with traps. A farmer started going fey on us, and decided to start screaming for yarn. Luckily, we saved some sheep wool. One of our swordsdwarves was very distressed by seeing the novice weaponsmith die, and has been feeling unhappy ever since. I recently found out that a siege back in the winter has been named "The Roasted Siege". It's ironic, since plump helmet men besieged us.

I'm worried now. It's late summer, so the sieges are coming at any time. We just got a siltstone ring, nice and simple, from our fey guy. Apparently the mechanics are busy with other things, so we'll just seal off the caverns until they have time to build traps. Troglodytes got in, nothing very dangerous. The human caravan is here now, but I'm not relaxing until the end of the season. An ambush squad could be right behind them, hiding behind trees or something. Or maybe they
are trees. Perhaps that may explain the strange flat board-like pink trees in the distance. Or maybe some elf just came along and decided to be all elfy and stuff. I can't decide which is worse.
The humans just arrived, trading went well, we bought almost everything (everything we wanted, we got). The gremlins were back, and they brought trolls. Why do trolls follow them, any one could crush a gremlin... The "swordsmasters" were pathetic to me. I only just noticed a star sapphire where a sapphire man had bravely sacrificed himself for the others. I've only just realized that Conan still uses a training axe. While the slaughter happened, I was supposed to be sparring with Conan. I thought you were meant to be meeting the liaison? Ah well, just get out here and help us.
Starwound's school of dwarven combat, lesson 1: ancient ettin and the bladed weapon
When facing an ancient ettin, what you must first do is sever as many limbs as possible, until they are incapacitated. After this, it is advised to repeatedly attack their heads in a crazy, disorganized manner. Hopefully you somehow get past their helm, otherwise they'll bleed out anyway.
Disclaimer: Starwound's school of combat reflects only dwarven instinct, and does not emphasize efficiency or reliability. Use advice at your own risk.
Trigg's upper leg was cut badly, he'll be alright though. I hope. The ettins are getting through. We can't let them. not this time.
Corpses everywhere, living enemies too. The mutilated corpses of our enemies, and even some of friends, scattered at the entrance. But it's over now, until next month. Cheveux's swords are truly amazing. As usual, a horde in the hospital afterwards. As a joke, I told our furnace operator to take the iron arrows stuck in someone's leg and melt them down. He actually did it. I was also surprised to see Conan in the hospital, since when could
anything hurt the guy?
The liaison was also in the hospital, although I'm not sure if it was because he wanted to talk to Conan, or he was asking to be treated:
Later on, the human guard lasher also visited, although he probably just got lost trying to find the depot again. I'm also telling jaxy to set up a catapult facing the entrance, as a temporary defensive measure.
What happened to the siege engineer's area? Be quiet. Don't you know what we're going through right now? Most of the military is half-dead, there are corpses everywhere, and all you care about is a little place to hurl boulders back and forth?
Limestone, 3
Everyone's out of the hospital, apart from Quintijn, who's currently being treated. I'm giving my squad a break, so I can make some bone bolts, and Conan can talk to the liaison. There was some master thief or something, I done't really care to be honest.
Sandstone, 3
From this year on, one set of gold coins will be minted in sandstone. Someone just complained about being stung by a bee, but I don't really care.
Timber, 3
Here come sapphire men and dwarves. And of course, another wave of enemies to kill, or get killed by.
