Moonstone, 2
It's almost the end of this year, and we still haven't hit magma, so many distractions. I just found granite... Granite's an igneous stone, right? Obok gives birth to a girl. In many stories, this is good luck followed by terrible luck. Let's hope the good luck is worth it. And it's terrible luck. We hit tetrahedrite. Why is this bad? Well, we already have cap iron and gryl stuff. Also, as I just saw cobaltite, unless there's a third mineral down there, we're probably not getting much atyl. However, we've a very gneiss discovery before the dead stone. So yeah, more dead stone down there after some gneiss. To celebrate, I have ordered the creation of traction benches. Someone may be hurt soon. And the liaison is back, this time we order metals, and dwarf/iron cap stuff. And some chain robes, they're pretty nice protection. Oh yeah, some more animals. Tank spiders and cannon slugs. Of course, some drinks.

Opal, 2
Just digging down to magma. Still haven't hit it. WHAT IS THIS SCHIST?

well, we just hit semi molten rock. Now to dig to the sides. Kadol the fisherdwarf gives birth to a boy. And more buzzard problems coming in... Okay, found the warm stone.

Obsidian, 2
And NRDL still refuses to go down there. Oh, so now the cabinets were not high quality enough? DEAL WITH IT. In other news, Dsarker will now also train/tame animals. And urvad gives birth to another girl. We now have 6 children. Wait 6? That's 2/9 of the fortress! Two thieves, I killed them both before they got inside. I think we need a few cage traps at the entrance. And some weapon traps too I guess. As cheveux is now head metalsmith, I am assigning Bim the dyer to mechanics. I think I noticed something in the distance...

AN AMBUSH! Goblins!

And our fisherdwarf's child was kidnapped. Ettins! EVERYWHERE!

Magma's around 20th z level, so you'll have to dig down very deep.

Granite, 3

The elves were right to fear them. Those... things. We won, but this was what they left behind:

The devestation in the workshops. On the left is the pastures, where tanks spiders, cannon slugs, and a bear managed to distract an ettin bowman before I got there.

They got to the hospital. The rest of the military (two people but still) was badly wounded. Hospital on the left, with containers, a well, beds, traction benches, and tables for surgery.

Some got down to the dining room too, one level below the hospital.

That mass of objects was our wagon, and the trade depot. Was.

And here's our bridge, now painted with blood.

I'm now considered an "elite" swordsdwarf. What kind of elite lets the enemy injure everyone? And I'm pretty sure there's more of them, just waiting for an opportunity. So I managed to talk to dsarker about the injuries.

1. ezum, speardwarf (furnace operator civilian)
Her left upper leg is badly cut and infected. Upper body too. And the liver... Everything needs sutures and dressing. So apparently, this means that he might not make it. But if he does, he'll make a full recovery. The bowmen really turned her into a pincushion, we're trying to get those stuck arrows out.

2. Urvad, militia commander axedwarf
Has a smashed middle spine, which sounds pretty painful. Also has a smashed open, infected, lower leg, and a motor nerve severed in the left hand. Apparently that last one means it probably can't be used anymore.

3. Sibrek, manager/broker/expedition leader
Her right hand is badly infected, but she's otherwise alright. It's been sutered by dsarker, and soap is being made.

I'm telling goden the tanner to make some soap. They won't die, not yet!

If we had armor this wouldn't have happened. I suppose I was lucky for having an old chain robe... We've got to reach magma as soon as these three have been treated! Or even before that!
note: chain robes are effectively metal robes
Looks like urvad, stonecrafter not militia commander, is a novice suterer. That'll be helpful. We also have some horse(!!!) soap for cleaning. Wounds are being dressed and stuff, so I think they'll all have at least a chance.

Slate, 3

... I need an atyl sword. My bronze one just couldn't get through their armor. We've found the magma sea. And a nice little gift to go with it:

Two pillars of it too. You can just see the second one in the bottom left. More weapon traps will be built. They're not hurting anyone this time. Cheveux has given up his pick for a metalsmith's hammer, so Solon, a stoneworker will take his place. Tulon, former fish dissector, is now our armorsmith. A chain robe, a helmet, gauntlets and boots. That's what everyone MUST have.

3 steel chain robes
3 steel helmets
3 sets of iron gauntlets
3 sets of low boots

And a lot of large, serrated cap iron discs. Sibrek's well enough to work now, although his hand doesn't look great anyway. The other two are still hurt badly. Ezum just got up and pretty much just stood by the brook a bit before going back to training. Sometimes, I wonder, what's the point of training? Only live combat experience has gotten us anywhere.
You know, we just captured a lot of prisoners...

Can't think about that now, we have defenses to build.

Felsite, 3
Ber, our military commander's daughter, has grown into a child. Hopefully their family will live on. Also, NRDL's masterpiece was toppled. I'm just going to live with one of his others, this is no time to be picky. I'm also getting us more cage traps now, prisoners will have a very special use to me, being so hard to kill.
<insert prize here> to whoever guesses what I'm planning!
Dsarker is annoyed with treating, but accepts it's needed for our survival. Urvad, military commander, just got back up and is having a drink of hopper juice as I write this. She seems to be in terrible condition though. A shield is to be made for everyone, to stop those stupid arrows.

Conan and G have gotten married! Hopefully this means more children. A thief! Just a kobold. And with that, the elves are here. Hopefully they brought animals. I'm going to guard the front entrance, for now at least. Sadly, only a grizzly bear, but we got a load of splints and drinks. This time, we order animals, and only animals, at highest priority.

Hematite, 3
Cap iron production was stopped for a month or so due to the siege, it should be up and running again now. Cheveux is training in weaponsmithing by producing huge amounts of cap iron serrated discs, which we can use in defense. Meanwhile, urvad (stone crafter, not commander) is making stone short swords for defense too. Our traps don't have to shred the enemy, they just have to at least wear down invaders to the point that we can deal with them.
Dastot, daughter of cheveux, has grown to become a child.
We are REALLY low on dwarf/iron caps now. I'm ordering more plump helmet plots to help our farmers with harvesting techniques. Our cannon slug gave birth to twins, which is nice. We need more war animals. Then ezum, speardwarf, gives birth to a girl. Life seems good for now I suppose. I think it's time to work on an armory, and a proper barracks.

Malachite, 3

Cheveux has another child, this time it's a boy. I'm going to add some cannon slugs and bears to our defense, cannon slugs are pretty good at spamming projectiles, and bears can stall or maybe even kill.

Galena, 3

Here come the humans. Let's hope they brought some atyl. And there's an ambush! Squad A (spear/axe, urvad and ezum) is going to kill their bowmen. Let's take all the goblin's atyl too. The human guards are dead, but the merchants are alright. Let's hope their sacrifice was worth it...

Then, the GREMLINS ambush us! See? I knew there was something with them! Okay, let's go out and kill them. Their weapons look terrible... This'll be easy. They didn't even make it past our traps. By the time we got there, gremlin bits everywhere.

Look at that! It's TERRIBLE! I'd even rather use my bronze than that "sword".
Poorly crafted: it's like swinging an adamantine hammer at a bronze colossus!

Sadly, one of urvad's children bled to death. Poorly crafted doesn't mean it won't hurt a baby. Now to see what we got:

4 atyl bars
2 gryl bars
3 tin bars
2 copper bars
3 iron bars
and a lot of other stuff. That was just the main metal bars. We got some geese, maybe we could breed them or something. Oh come on! We got an atyl whip, and a gryl sword, two in fact! They also had some of those "numerous spikes". I'm going to try and put two of them into a weapon trap at the main entrance. As usual, a bunch of attempted thieves came. Conan actually shot right through the head of one kobold.

Another ambush! Solon the stoneworker was injured, doesn't look TOO bad compared to the rest of the wounds these ettin have caused. Why is it always bowmen? Why? Well I saw one spearman, but there are so many bows... Urvad's hand was cut, and she then went back to the hospital, leaving us to deal with the attack. These things are easy to knock unconscious, but are terribly hard to kill. We need a soldier with a whip. We just bought an atyl one from the merchants, too. Maybe some hammers or something would help as well. We knock them unconscious, other dwarf smashes their heads in with no risk. I think I'll use a whip and a sword for now, until someone else comes to join the military.

Limestone, 3
A masterwork of our chef was lost! He's made dozens, he doesn't really care much. And I'm now officially getting married to dsarker. Also, making more spiked copper balls for traps, I hear they're like huge hammers.

Sandstone, 3
Two cannon slugs have now been chained behind cover, near the entrance. Hopefully they can do something to invaders. Two bears closer to the entrance as well. If the dwarves had atyl, our war against goblins, gremlins and ettins would be over by now...

Timber, 3
I just realized,  we have no grave yards. I'll work on that now. Near the hospital, to remind dsarker of her failures or something :)
As the merchants arrive, I'm getting ready to hear somebody yell AMBUSH! As expected, a squad of cross bowmen, with a swordsgoblin as leader. At least they're just goblins.
I killed three of the goblins. From the caravan, we bought a huge load of metal bars, some tank spiders, some cannon slugs, and some plants and stuff. And with thief coming, we got to see how the numerous spikes worked. A huge amount of damage was done, the thing was bleeding all over the place. It didn't jam. We're going to order some more of those. I'm just scared what would happen if a masterwork was created by one of our weaponsmiths. Even the ancient ettin thief that came was mutilated quickly, although one head was still alive. Still, it was an easy target. And then we get an ambush... Only goblins, and half of them are being mutilated by our traps. I'm telling Conan to be a marksdwarf now instead of just a hunter.
Oh the ambushes. Even more of them. And the ancient ettins too. NRDL was an idiot, and decided to run TOWARDS them. Conan acts like an idiot too, and instead of going to get ammunition, she went to smash the ettin's head with her crossbow. Ezum then suffered a broken rib and a cut leg. Conan was similarly badly wounded. Luckily, the remaining ettins retreated, and we could recover Conan, who, unlike us, was not used to extreme pain.
KEVLAR CLOAKS o_O bronze sword from legendary swordsdwarf is deflected by ettin's silk cloak
Urvad's oldest child was also badly hurt...

This hasn't been a good month at all.
