11:Malachite, 2
Well with that ettin thing behind us... Well not behind us, that
thing's blood is still everywhere. Anyway, we seem to be out of stone! I suppose this'll be a good excuse to dig out a metalsmith's area. We have a reasonable amount of wood, but I don't think it's enough to melt down insignificant things like crafts. Yet. We also have almost no weapons grade metal... In fact, according to the bookkeeper, we have
no bars of metal! The cap iron isn't growing fast enough, next time the dwarves come round we need more seeds.
I created a masterpiece again today! I'm amazed I can do anything with these...
horse bones.
So anyway, back to the forges. Cheveux is now the head metalsmith, nothing to do with the fact we have the same goal
.
So I looked at what we can melt. I bought a bunch of steel anvils, they could probably be melted down into bars at a good rate. There's also that large iron mask the thief was wearing. Although I don't really think it's worth it.
Galena, 2
By the time the caravan arrived, we only had a single bar of steel. I'm going to see what they have before asking Cheveux to do anything. I'll bring some weapon racks and biscuits to trade. We had a bit of a badger man problem, but the human guards quickly took care of that. The humans have gryl, silver, iro- ATYL! THEY HAVE ATYL! YES! Atyl is so expensive... I'll trade an entire fortress for those goods if I have to. The humans had what we couldn't even dream of. Sadly, I couldn't buy much atyl, so I settled for the anvil: 1 whole bar of the precious metal. I'll buy some of their iron, bronze and gryl stuff too. We can use this gryl battle axe for now... I also managed to sneak off with the guard's atyl armor while they were resting after their journey. The merchant didn't seem to notice. Oh, the humans had a "trade request manager". Ah humans, always giving the
right names to things. ORDER ATYL. AND LOTS OF IT. If you can, some ethyl too.
Note: the -atyl pick- was worth 5280. 5280. All the crafts they had, 600-1200... I wish I could buy them but we aren't rich. Yet.I really want my sword, but I don't want to see atyl wasted on poorly crafted objects. So I'm requesting the production of iron weapons until we have a consistent amount of masterpieces being produced. You know, with all this, I think magma would be helpful. I'm going to talk to NRDL about digging down there...
limestone, 2
I'm going to take a year or two just to train with a sword. Conan, stop complaining about a lack of ammunition and CARVE YOUR OWN BOLTS from those HORSES you KILL. And this time if a masterpiece is lost, it'll be YOURS. Anyway, NRDL said it's alright as long as she gets an office. With eight cabinets. And a turkey tied to a rope at the door. A "guard turkey" for "spotting intruders" apparently.
So while I'm thinking about the best way to arrange eight cabinets, a chair, and a restrained animal in the smallest space possible, ezum the speardwarf gives birth to a boy. Then we hit a cavern. I don't want to deal with it right now, so I'm just ordering that we use the closest nearby stone to build a floor over the stairs, and keep digging down. And now NRDL is complaining that the rock she's going to use for one piece of floor shouldn't be moved until it's time to work with that one, although another rock needs to go to where it is at the moment. Then she starts asking about where her office is. Oh and apparently we had some buzzard issues. I don't get why anyone's scared, they're easy to kill.
GREMLIN! Wait, what? Gremlins are found underground, where they try to sneak into your fortress. This one was above ground... And it had equipment. What is this... Well Kadol instantly mutilated it, so no real problems here.
Anyway, I'm going to ask for a large tree farm to be dug out. It'll add to our wood/charcoal supplies, the dwarf caps take forever to grow. Oh that reminds me, NRDL, here's your office:
Oh, and I don't want you known as the "expedition leader" anymore. I'm giving that title to sibrek, who manages and records everything in our entire fortress. And a diplomat has left unhappy? Uh, alright then. Those tall people are kinda weird.
Sandstone, 2
Those 6 spiders that hatched a long time ago have now grown into children! The only differences I see are that they're bigger and don't crawl anymore. Sibrek asked me what we need, so I came around to look at what the merchants have. Sadly, no ethyl for Cheveux. So I just say get every weapons-grade material, and put atyl on highest priority. Anvils too, for melting. I also noticed they had a trap component they call "numerous spikes", looking at picture, it seemed pretty freaking dangerous. So I ordered some. Also, some lye, charcoal and potash. Just cus. I'm also asking for short and long swords, hoping that they bring atyl ones. And whips and morningstars, I've heard stories about those things. And of course, drinks. Just some hopper juice, we don't really have many hopper berries here.
Then another gremlin thief. These gremlins remind me of goblins. I always hear stories about goblins trying to steal from merchants, only to be mutilated by some guard.
Looks like we finally got some dwarf caps, let's turn them into some cap iron. We've had iron caps lying around for so long... I think it's best that we say only farmers should harvest, to increase how much dwarf cap we get.
Timber, 2
Yeah, finishing our new bridge entrance, and the merchants arrive. I'm sneaking off with some of their guard's equipment as always. Then I notice a kobold thief.
AGH YOU IDIOTS! Don't build the floor on the bridge side first, it'll collapse. NRDL now calls her office a "throne room". Now that's just weird.
From the caravan, I buy more medical stuff (splints/crutches), and all their bar stuff. There's some steel, but it's mostly like coke, charcoal and pearlash. They had the cannon slugs and cages we ordered, and some iron beer. Ah iron beer, most valuable drink ever... I'm just buying whatever, so we can have some equipment. They also have some dwarf cap seeds, that'll be useful.
SNATCHER! THIEF! SNATCHER! THIEF! SNATCHER! SNATCHER! SNA- wait that's it? Anyway, we had a huge wave of thieves try to attack us, but they were quickly killed. Still, there were so many...
