2Section of the chapter: Katana's random rants #1A journal is left open, looks like the owner ran off in a hurry. So, it was just hematite, right? And it's Malachite now. Every season in summer is named after an ore. Hematite: iron, Malachite: copper, Galena: lead and silver. However, what happens to the other ores? Are the insignificant compared to these almighty three minerals? What makes Galena any better than native silver? Lead's not very valuable anyway. What makes malachite better than tetrahedrite, or even native copper? Does hematite's abundance in igneous extrusive stones make limonite and magnetite obsolete? And what about Galena. It's the only mineral that's an ore of two metals, and not just one: lead and silver. However, it is the only ore of lead. So if we consider galena a pure lead ore for a moment, we'll find that the months create iron, lead and copper. What's so special about this? Why are iron, lead, and copper more important than any other minerals? If it was something like bismuth, tin, and copper, we could say that summer was just the bronze season. Is a metal created by iron, lead, and copper? Dwarves know of no alloy like this. Adding silver to the equation (Galena, mid summer) still gives no interesting results. We cannot even consider this trio of "special" metals good for anything, really.
I'm going to go make some bone bolts for practice. Stupid yak bones, they're worse than horses.
I just got an idea for the next slimelands update.___
Malachite, 1
Sometimes I wonder if the original 'starwound' was just a dream. It was the year 11 in that dream, but asking Conan, it's only 5 right now. Am I going crazy? Hey, where did the bones go? That demon rat must've eaten it! I've got to order some tank spiders when the dwarves come, we can't have our precious bones wasted. At least they were just yak bones. And some migrants arrived:
1. An accomplished glazer named jaxy who had wanted to be a siege engineer all his life, but had been forced to glaze by his family and friends. We agreed that he could live his dreams here, where there was plenty of wood, so long as he helped out with charcoal making, which he was a novice at.
2. A woodcrafter who was also a decent doctor and mason, named trigg. First thing he asked was if he could be a cook. Wow, looks like we've got a lot of dreamers here. Hopefully there's someone decent at what they love.
3. A high master bowyer who's also a novice armorsmith. She asked for permission to use the forges, so I just said it's alright as long as she operates the furnaces too. At least she's a novice at armoring.
Side note: f***, I'm in love with NRDL. at least this time you don't have a whip. There was also a kitten, which I am now assigning to guard the bone stockpile from our hellish enemies, the demon rats. I saw some sky jellyfish in the distance, near the brook. Now that I think of it, this is actually the first time I've ever seen one.
Conan finally got around to tanning that yak hide, but then realized it had rotten months ago.
Yeah, I was a bit worried my mod had a glitch and they didn't show up. Same with slimes. Hopefully, we get no zombie versions. This place is only sinister, after all.
Note: An armorsmith/bowyer is now available for dorfing.I just realized how few containers we have. Our "armorer" will have to wait, she's going to be doing stonecrafting for now. By the way:
IT'S WORKING! OH YES IT'S WORKING! THE DEMON RATS WILL
DIE!
