21:

Hematite, 5
We will now begin on the gold military zone, like cheveux requested. The magma and stuff like that can come later. At the moment, gold bars are being hauled to the new stockpile. Meanwhile, Jaxy is teaching his two new students how to operate siege engines. Some kobold thieves were spotted, but quickly dealt with. NRDL killed it. Slowly and painfully. The marksdwarves wounded the escaping one, and we finished it off. Jaxy has become a legend at siege operating, probably making up for his lack of engineering skills:

Mesthos the blacksmith is in a fey mood! He claimed the forge where we were making chain robes, and took a single bar of brass to make his mysterious construction. Oh yeah and we're putting all the badgers in the courtyard as a thief spotting and stalling mechanism. Along with all other non-war trainable yet somewhat dangerous animals, like foxes and bats. Oh and Reg, our legendary clothier made even more legendary by a thong, was elected mayor. Does this mean he's going to demand an office like Dsarker did?

Malachite, 5
On the first day of malachite, we found this:
"The defensive seals", a brass bucket (16800)
This is a brass bucket. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of brass.

How nice. On the bright side, we got a legendary metal smith out of it. I'm going to order the production of coins, one set of cap iron per year. Also, some cap iron crafts. We need to expand our forges, we've got 4 smiths and 2 magma forges at the moment. We're going to pump magma up to the new military zone when we can, but our only magma safe metals seem to be atyl, iron and steel. Oh and pig iron. I hope we can get some nickel, otherwise I'll have to waste our precious weapons-grade metals. Hey mestthos, you just made an artifact right? That's nice, now please operate some furnaces for a while. I just noticed, Dsarker is using Urvad's old axe for woodcutting. Wait, Dsarker is doing work?

Fun fact: starwound has 224 dwarf cap spawn and 266 iron cap spawn. Yes, we went over the 200 cap.

Anyway, since plain gold looks a bit boring, I'm going to add a little cap iron to the constructions. Since mestthos seems to love slade, he's going to get a special anvil just for him. That anvil. I'm also making Dastot (high master beekeeper we never drafted) a glassmaker so hopefully we don't have to use any metal for the pumps.

Galena, 5

Digging huge amount of storage space for finished goods, maybe we can make some bins out of cap iron or something. I hope nothing interrupts the human caravan, we need more atyl. After fighting off around another three ambushes, I was badly hurt and went to the hospital. Urvad, it's your turn.

So I heard what happened form everyone else. Apparently, a lot of war animals were killed, the honey badgers went berserk on the ettins, and whips sliced through their brains. No dwarves died, but Solon the miner was hurt. He's on the bed opposite of me right now in fact. Now would a doctor PLEASE diagnose me? Thank you dsarker.

Limestone, 1

My right hand is cut apart, what's new. That happened a long time ago. Also, I just found that my right ear is badly hurt. Kadol, fisherdwarf and metalcrafter (doesn't fish) gave birth to a boy. That makes 17 children in the fortress. I'm alright again, although my ear is infected. I hope nothing bad happens.

We have an annoying lack of wood, since all the dwarf caps seem to be going to cap iron production. We'll probably have enough spare dwarf cap wood when our herbalists finish processing the mushrooms into metal.

Also, I guess. Maybe we could give the ballistas cap iron tips.

Too bad it was the blacksmith that went fey instead of weapon or armor. Or even metalcrafter.

Our actual problem is a lack of workers to do everything. I've got gold being smelted, cap iron being processed, iron cap being planted, pig tails/emerald vines being processed, millers making dye and cave berry powder, weavers to weave those threads, dyers to dye that cloth, and a clothier to make crafts. Did I mention a bit more than 25% of the fort is in the military? Oh yeah, and war animals being trained in huge numbers. I think I'll stop the training for now so we can have a bit less to do.

Isn't it always the way that the amount of work that needs to be done increases, even when you haven't changed anything?

It was just how much I had ordered to be done: Melt down all 3 years worth of ambusher loot, smelt all the gold in the fort, train war animals, practice catapults etc. multiple months before the actual time.

22:

Aww, a siege, no human traders for us.

Wait a second.

But... That ghost wasn't...

... Let's get this over with.

Poor guys...

Limestone, 5

My right hand is cut apart, what's new. That happened a long time ago. Also, I just found that my right ear is badly hurt. Kadol, fisherdwarf and metalcrafter (doesn't fish) gave birth to a boy. That makes 17 children in the fortress. I'm alright again, although my ear is infected. I hope nothing bad happens.
Hopefully I can take my mind off of this by slaughtering the ettin ambush. And then the goblin one. At least it was easy killing. As usual, multiple ambushes were spotted after the original. Also as usual, I killed them all. I've killed over one hundred notable people now, yet I felt guilty about killing the humans.

Sandstone, 5

A farmer goes all fey on us. He makes a goblin (!) bone gauntlet, with a picture of how ezum was killed by our own traps. I just realized, it was a numerous spike trap. With components that we had bought from the humans. Who just besieged us... I'm moving squad A (militia commander's) to train at the under-construction military housing, in case there are attacks, we need all entrances well defended.

Timber, 5

A thief was just spotted. Get ready for the ambushes... The caravan is here, this time I'll order sand, glass, and metals. Ambushes any time now. Medtob, an off duty marksman who was meant to be hauling stuff to the depot, was caught by one ettin. Luckily, Kib and Darkflagrance helped him out. I realized, kib's hand is too hurt, and he's stuck only using a shield. At least he's good at that. Now we're under siege! A proper invading force of... One squad of goblins.

I'm going to begin a special area for tombs to our heroes. For soldiers, that doesn't mean earning a title. It means charging into a siege and killing them all. Urvad and I are the only (living :() ones eligible, NRDL looks like she might be pretty soon, considering how well she fought during our minor siege. We could call Conan eligible, just for all of her hunter kills (sixty nine animals dead), and Dsarker for being doctor when she hated it. Jaxy has yet to prove himself, but with the creation of our new area, he probably will, soon.

I'm going to start crushing useless waste, such as remains or the worthless clothes of invaders.
Although the most likely cause of FPS death is all these animals.

Moonstone, 5

Trading takes forever without bins. Dsarker is making a load of them now. More stockpiles for food being made. Sometimes, I don't see the point in making a gold area, it's going to be painted in blood if the military is there anyway.

Opal, 5
We're to be elevated, again! Dsarker will probably suggest herself... again. Also, she just fufilled her own mandate. I don't like being in a position of figurehead-y power, I prefer slaughtering hundreds and being known for that.

Obsidian, 5
I have a bad feeling about this siege.

Oh but that was planned, red and gold are colors that go so well together, additionally gold does not rust.

I like blue and gold more. Looks like we're getting red blue yellow since I put cap iron in there.
