You might want to give your soldiers some weapon training.

also don't forget to have some animal to pull your wagon.

As for your character, remember to pick out some abilities. Probably training people exceptionally well, and being able to use any weapon?

very nice. You might want to figure out a combat oriented ability, maybe an inspirational speech?

Gaius:
When the mists clear, you find yourself on a rolling plain. there are hills to the southwest, and the beginnings of a forest to the southeast. The sun is high in the sky, and a cool wind is blowing from the west.

Taric:
You find yourself at the foot of a snowy mountain pass. Behind you, the the earth rises up as if to block out the sky. in front of you, to the north, are some grassy hills, and to the northeast, you see some forested mountains.

Maybe a Rallying cry?

The Archers and axemen head into the forest for food and wood, Foragers search the hills for food and the laborers set the camp up in those hills usng the tents. I'll search out for our fellow settlers.

Taric:
The archers have great luck, and bring back a couple of deer. The axemen find the local trees to be good wood, and fell several of them. The foragers, however, find the hills to be totally devoid of edible plants, and come back empty handed. You search the nearby area, and find no sign of any other human beings. You do manage to map the surrounding area, though.

I search further to the north, there maybe something else there. Archers are to go back hunting, axemen chopping wood and the foragers go with them to scrounge up any thing edible they can find. Builders start fortifying the camp.

I'll take the Builder then?  I'll work up something in a minute.

For an ability, I went with cheaper/faster buildings.  That sound fair?

Taric:
You have difficulty climbing the hills, they are steep and the ground is only barely held in place. nevertheless, you climb to the top of the hill and map the surrounding terrain. You are almost about to turn back, but then you see a trail of smoke.

Back at camp, your archers have little luck. Seems the prey has become much more wary now. Your woodcutters also have some trouble finding good wood, but manage to bring back a little. Your foragers manage to find some berries and a few edible roots, but that's about it. The builders at least manage to get some stuff done, building a modest watchtower.

At this point, I'd like to pause and let the others catch up a bit, okay?

Toaster:
Yeah, that's good.

You arrive on a stunted shubland. Rocky outcroppings litter the area, and twisted growths cling to them desperately.

"All right boys, let's get cracking!  First thing is food!  Let's find some!  Once we get some supplies, we can lay down some farms.  Wood looks sparse, but there's stone!  Let's get what wood is easy to grab, and then go for solid granite!"

Farmers all hunt/forage for food- take the bows.
All builders assist lumberjacks in gathering wood.
Miners see if they can get some stone to start off with.

Toaster:
The foraging goes poorly - this area is pretty barren. The woodcutting and mining go well - you find a number of rugged trees, and your miners find a very nice outcrop of stone for a mine.

"This land sucks.  Let's get some farming going."

9 Builders build fields
All farmers hunt
Last builder and lumberjacks chop wood
Miners dig more stone

Are turns a week or a month (will this get me 3/4 of a field or 3 fields?)

Also, I'll be mostly away this weekend, so my turns will be sluggish (posting from phone.)

Turns are weeks. 4 weeks make a month.
I've gone and changed all the time measurements into weeks, though, so this should give you a few fields.

Sillus:
Your builders find the soil to be stony and thin, nevertheless they manage to dig two fields. The farmers have little success, there's not much more here than rabbits. The lumberjacks again manage to find a surprising amount of wood in the hills. The miners continue to pick away at surface stone.

And don't worry about being away, we're still waiting for sheb to take a turn.

Yeah, sorry. Actually I was expecting us to be all together. Well, good I'm the one specializing in food then.

"All men! We need some farms! Those hillsides should support great wheat crops! As for myself, I'll take Brutus and Julius (The menservants) will me and scout that forest to the south. We should get much timber from it. Brutus, take a pair of axes, they'll come in handy if we meet some wildlife."

"Sabina darling, stay here, I'll try to find some strawberries for you. I know how much you like them, pregnant as you are. And don't worry for me, you know that as a Patrician, I was trained in hunting and fighting with a variety of weapons. (Yup, that's my combat ability. No general buff, but my guys got proficiency in most weapons)"
