This is a new forum game I'm thinking about starting, a multiplayer player-vs-world TBS, similar to outpost or walkers. The difference is that in this game, things are much more complicated. Because of the added complication, no single player, or even group of players, should be able to guide everything. Instead, you take the part of a single notable character. You give orders to your subordinate units, and try to guide them in undertaking some task, which will benefit the entire group. Providing food, say, or constructing housing. Together with the other players, you endeavor to survive in a hostile world. I've already put some thought into this, but I think I've gotten about as far as I can in a vacuum, which is why I'm posting this. So what do you think? Anything look unbalanced or silly to you? I'm not anywhere close to having everything listed, so suggestions for new content are also welcome. Also if something doesn't seem to make sense or looks poorly explained, go ahead and say so. Once I think I've gotten the mechanics figured out, I'm going to try and run a game.

The system seems solid enough.  Have you tested your numbers any?  I'll admit- I'm largely winging mine, aside from what I've already said (but that's okay.)

I just might jump in when you put it up.

I haven't tested my numbers in anyway whatsoever. For the most part, I don't even have set numbers. the yields from gathering and the costs for builing are both highly variable. About the only numbers I do have are combat values.

I just might jump in when you put it up.

I'd love to have you. If another two or three people sign up, I'll go ahead and launch a game.

Seems good to me. Being a bit complicated will cull unmotivated players, but you should make clear players need to read and understand the rules, or you'll have to manage players giving orders like "Just produce some food".

Just a small question: what do you mean by "When it comes to labors, only a units highest rate in a labor is used. This rate will multiply with all other rate increases, unless they say otherwise." if I stack laborer with a mason, will they benefit from his rate (he can direct them)?

I'm not actually going to insist that the players have a perfect understanding of the rules - just enough to know what actions they can take and what actions they cannot take.

As for the laborers, that's in regard to units that have multiple training. for example, a mason has laborer training, builder training, and masonry training. that gives him a 50% masonry labor rate from the laborer training, a 100% rate from the builder training, and a 125% rate from the masonry training. Only the masonry rate is used, so his rate is 125%.

Sweet! let us begin!

To start, I want each of you to create a Notable Character like the ones I have listed. Then pick out some followers, about twenty or so, and some basic starting supplies. Try not to be too excessive, and remember that the first threats you will face are starvation and exposure.

Here are some recommendations.

Wagons are good, as well as some animals to pull them. Not more than two or three, though.
Seeds are important, if you plan to farm.
Enough food to last you until you can get more.
Some basic weapons are good, and necessary if you want to hunt. Spears and bows are probably best for this, as swords make for poor hunting tools.
Your units should only have about three different kinds of training.
Anything else you think is important, but not to excess please.

heres an example.

Avna’s Group, at beginning
15x laborer, gatherer, farmer
5x laborer, builder, landscaper
1x Avna
2x wagons
4x oxen, pulling wagons
5x barrels.
5x bags of grain seed
80x food, preserved
5x plow
8x shovel
15x axe

Maybe we should specialize? Each of us could be a guildmaster or something? We could have builder, craftmen, farmers and soldiers for exemple. It'll be possible to trade men later on to adjust I guess.

If we agree to this, I'd like to be the Farmer.
