Melting Bug?
« on: November 11, 2007, 12:35:00 am »

I've set up a series of magma forges and one magma smelter in my latest volcanic fortress.  To train up my armorsmith, I had him making iron shields on repeat.  I'd found a minor vein of hematite and mined out twelve pieces, and so set my furnace operator to melt metal objects on repeat, and continuously marked the armorsmith's creations for melting.

Pretty soon, I began to notice my stock of iron bars increasing.  I stopped and started taking notes on how much each melted shield gave me.

A shield requires one iron bar and, in the previous release, should give back one iron bar when melted.  However, I found the amount returned ranged from fractions of a bar - melting four shields and getting 2 bars back - to absurdly high numbers (23 bars from one shield!).  I've tried this out with other one-bar items - helms, caps, greaves - and gotten similar results; I'm reasonably sure the bug extends at least to copper.  At the present, I have 247 iron bars - from an original twelve.

So I'm not sure what the deal is, and I feel like I'm exploiting the game.  What's up?

This is a bug in the old version. If you are still using it or are using an old save with the new game, it'll still be a round. Toady says he fixed it though i think. Check your version i guess?
