uplink its a hollywood hacking game while SH is more toward simulation ( while its not a full simulation or else it would be boring and ppl would simply hack for real )
Somehow I doubt that anyone intelligent or sane would ever say "Man, this hacking game is so boring that I am going to hack for real, because it is probably more fun than this. I think this is entirely rational, don't you? Pip pip. *puts on top hat and monocle*"
It wouldn't be a rational thing to do at all.
On the other hand, people demonstrate all the time that they can't think rationally:
Bye-bye, nomination. Another one down. We’re in the midst here of discovering that this is all a hoax. The last year has established that the whole premise of man-made global warming is a hoax, and we still have presidential candidates that want to buy into it.
(Rush said that in June, after Mitt Romney answered a question by stating that he does believe that the climate is warming and that humanity is contributing to that warming and needs to reduce their output of greenhouse gases.)
On the subject of this game:
I read reviews on the previous game, talked to people who had tried them, and had already formed a negative opinion of the author as a result. I also tend to avoid pre-ordering anything, especially anything uncertain (I had BF3 pre-ordered via amazon (which doesn't charge until it ships) for a couple months, but cancelled it due to EA's continued asshattery), and I usually want to read reviews first - and even then a game which has good reviews still may not be one that I will enjoy (I didn't like Stardock's GalCiv 2, for instance).
