Bone encrusted jewel amulet
« on: June 22, 2011, 05:24:39 am »

As it seems that dwarves can't move large gems, as there is no place for them in any stockpiles, I've noticed that if one gets picked up for decorating with horn, bone or ivory, it stays in the craftdwarfs and becomes a rather well encrusted gem after a while, as they pick up the nearest thing...

A purple spinel amulet now has rose quartz, giraffe bone, warthog ivory, human bone(!), goose bone, goblin bone, peafowl bone, elephant ivory, elephant tooth, warthog hoof, an elephant bone image, an alpaca bone image and, appropriately, an image of flasks in chicken bone.

And it's only worth 1010 DF bucks...

Anyone else getting overly decorated gems?

Yeah, it's common. It doesn't make sense until you truly get used to DF. Then you'll just go 'meh" at everything like this.  :P

You haven't met "overly decorated" until you put together enough decorations to make an object worth 60k+ no matter the base value. I once had rock statues which hit 100k+

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

I segregate gem cutters' workshops from gem decorators' workshops from craft shops. The dwarves don't get a lot of chances to decorate random objects.
