Phantom mandate
« on: November 10, 2007, 11:32:00 pm »

I just caught the announcement that my mayor had mandated the construction of certain goods, so I go to the nobles screen to check it out. But no mandates are visible at all, either on the nobles list or on his personal details.

If I had to guess, this possibly might be because the mayor has a preference listed for Adamantine in his thoughts, and the game is merciful enough to cancel out mandates for adamantine items (at least when you have no wierd pits around).

You probably already had the item queued and it completed before the alert came in. Alerts seem to come a few seconds after the thing that triggered it actually happens.

Oh god, you must be right. The mayor just mandated 2/2 Adamantine items (apparently he reads this forum too). And he knows I can't squish or drown him because he's one of my resident superdwarves.

Ignore it and focus on keeping him happy in other ways.  He'll be pissed, but there's nobody to punish since (I assume) the Adamantine jobs don't exist in your game yet.

Adamantium is supposed to be everybody's responsibility because that's why you are settling there in the first place. In other words, it will send the sheriff on a rampage. Solution: undesignate the sheriff.

I've yet to make a sheriff in any game i've played so far. I don't need a bunch of cripples hobbling about my fortress for missing " Make Rope Reed Sock x2 ".

But that isn't true anymore, is it?  In the old versions, we only settled where there was Adamantium to be had, but now we're building lots of settlements where there's no real chance of finding it.

Yeah, the crazy punishments for failing the king's adamantine mandates in the old version were specific to the king and the old endgame. I let the mayor's mandate expire and it just gave out 1 beating to a metalcrafter, just as if it had been any other mandate.
