I've discovered DF through some guy who wanted to import DF maps in Minecraft alpha, needless to say since then MC is only catching dust.
Some days ago i found a fellow dorf in the SotS forums.

So i thought: hey, seems that the average DF player like the game I like(some of them, DF on top, don't use marketing or advertising), why don't make a thread about the games the community love, chances are that we all discover new, beautiful things...

and there we are, fellow Overseer or Adventurer, what old and obscure(as well as the more recent and renowned) ludic gems do you play?

as for me, Caesar III or the awesome Imperium Galactica are two games perpetually installed in my system since win95, although actually i can't manage to get the last one running...

Well, if we're talking about Indies and Roguelikes...

Elona is a good, free RPG if you're into DF's adventure mode. (and have a goddamn numpad on your keyboard)


And then there's the more popular Terraria, which is basically a 2d Minecraft. It's only a couple of bucks on steam.


A free half life mod I found recently is Hidden. It's a multiplayer shooter where it's a team of 7ish gun wielding agents against one, near invisible, knife wielding opponent.



I don't have any time to think of more but those are all the gems I have off the top of my head ATM.

That said, I play Touhou, Minecraft, and Audiosurf pretty much exclusively.
Sometimes I'll go in and play other stuff, but those are the ones I keep coming back to.
First is a series of arcade shooters more famous for music remixes and tons of fanart than actually being shooter games.
Seems you're pretty familiar with the second.
It's pretty much everything I wanted out of DF, sans the stuff I didn't like.
Last one is a music game.
It uses an algorithm to create tracks for any song or sound clip you load up, then you race along it collecting blocks.

The only ones I'm still dabbling in here and there at the moment are:

Arcana Heart 3

Gradius V is really only up there just because my friend hasn't played it, so we've been playing it a bit recently.

I'm actually not playing StB much right now, but it's definitely one of those games I return to frequently. It makes me feel bad when I come back after a break and I can't beat a card I easily beat before.

Arcana Heart 3 is just plain fun.

Those are just the games I'm playing right now, there's plenty of other games I play.

I've kind of lost my interest in all games currently. I'm waiting for The Last Days mod come out for Mount & Blade, Starfarer to take steps ahead and, naturally, next version of Dwarf Fortress. Looking forward to Magna Mundi the game, too.   

Games I used to play and enjoy, in general:
4X (Sword of the Stars, Alpha Centauri, MOO I-II, MOM, Fall Further mod for Civ IV)
Roguelikes (Prospector, Dungeon Crawl, Incursion)
Historical strategy (Pretty much everything from Paradox)
Left 4 Dead 2 (versus mostly)
Spaaaaaaaaaaaace (I-War I&II, Freespace I&II)
Squad-based tactics games (X-Com 1 & 3, Jagged Alliances, Silent Storm, Ufo Aftershock & Afterlight)
Story-driven CRPGS, njet to hack'n'slash (Planescape: Torment, Fallout I-II & New Vegas, Baldur's Gate I-II, Witcher)

Then there are some occasional games with hard to place genre, often indy, often low budget, often buggy and horrible but still something I play. For example, Fort Zombie. I'm interested in realistic military shooter likes ARMA2 once I upgrade my computer.

I play many games from many genres, but the games I'm currently playing (I.E. I've played them within the last few days) are World of Warcraft, Minecraft, and Final Fantasy 4.
