You try and read his mind. You stretch yourself to your limits. Maybe if you just applied... a little more... ugh...

You almost fall over, but you steady yourself. You still feel like crap, though... in fact, you feel... tired...

You fall over, and fall into the ether...

***

Yet another bloody dream. This one won't let you go, though.

You seem to be in a tank filled with some sort of liquid. You don't feel good at all. You tap the glass, and the tank breaks. You are let out, and you cough as you taste air for the first time. Some humanoid walks up to you, and looks at you.

It's impolite to stray into minds, Brother. I know you are something else entirely. Something like me. But just who are you? What is your... point?

Tell the truth about your origins, at least the part that you know.

You tell what happened.

Hmm. It explains why you can see me, and why you can't hear my thoughts. We have great power, but they are essentially useless when you fight against someone of equal stance. So, Brother, since we are almost neatly the same, will you join me in my fight?

Ask him to explain his history first.  You told him what you knew about your past, it's only fair for him to return the favor.

Well, my tale takes place a long time ago. Man, you see, is an inquisitive creature. It will prod anything that moves, and burn anything that bites. I was made by these creatures, with their own genetic code. Made from their flesh, I become evolved. I was the ancestor to your experiments, which are different. For one thing, you aren't blind and in constant searing pain. Those fools ruined the code, made me feel... wrong...so, I fought back. I killed their little teams, their hounds, with just a knife and some grenades. Sure, they were armed and dangerous, but they were no match for me. I envy you, whoever you are. You... feel no pain. You are perfect. You make me rage inside. I am not sure if this will work, but... can you calm the pain for once, just for a while? I am sure you can placate, since you seem to be.. telepathic. It may require a lot of energy, but if you do it... I will give you something good.

If you can rewrite neurons, perhaps you can work with nerves too. Calm his pain.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

Ease his pain

That last gobbo would stand there, missing an arm, punctured in a kidney, liver, and spleen, fading in and out of consciousness at the far end of where the drawbridge would go, and his last sight would be the drawbridge dropping down and smashing him like a bug.

God DAMN I love this game!

(Don't worry, he is just... very very creepy)

Maybe you can just get past the block. Maybe you can just get past it...

You push through the block, and heal his pain... maybe, just maybe... it works. He doesn't feel constant pain now! This is very new! You think you have a new power now...

You wake up. He is standing above you, with a knife to your neck.

Two things you lack, Brother. You fight with guns, but all you really need is good reflexes and a good knife. He hands you the knife. You spend the next five hours training with him. You now know the way with a knife almost perfectly, and know how to use it. You can pigstick, you can slash quickly and you can move very very fast. Now, you are ready.

Well done. Now, the mystery continues. Just who are we, Brother? Why did they give us breath, and why did they try to take us back when we were given freedom? I think we should find a good place to search for them. Infinitum Research were my creators, and yours are unknown. We need to find something that... completes the web.

Wait, is the knife thing a knew power, or did he really just manage to make you a master of knife-combat in just under 5 hours?

Anyway, just follow his lead.  See if he can tell you anything more about your creators.

(He is really that fucking good at this. He takes out squads of heavily armed, well trained soldiers easily! Think about it! You have to be really good with a knife to kill someone on the first hit! You bet he can train someone in knife combat in just five hours!)

You and the Hidden sneak through the building, looking for something, anything. You search through what seems like the thirtith filing cabinet when something catches your eye. You grab the file, and open it out.

SUBJECT ALPHA 298
Powers: Telepathy. Chance for ███████ and possible ███████.
Bio: ...
Containment: Kill on sight.
Status: Rogue.
Host: Josef ███████
Special Procedures: If in any building, lock down and send in Subject Zebra 995.

Wait... Lockdown?

The entire building's power goes off, and red lights come on. Shutters go in front of the buildings, blocking out any attempt at escape. You can hear something scraping against metal.

Get a knife.  Use your training.

Ok apparently, you are part of the Subject A series, and therefore only one power and of the weakest type ( although from what the Subject has been able to do this might not be true ).  They know you are in the body of Josef and that you can reincarnate.  Apparently, their orders are to send in a Subject Z series guy, which means he is a demigod.

Anyway, stick with the Hidden.  Keep a knife ready, and use your telepathy to scan the perimeter.

The Hidden tosses you a knife, and you catch it. You scan the horizon for anything that could be a Subject Z.

Suddenly, everything goes haywire. There... There is so many minds! They are so tiny, but... they are in the trillions! You fall over, and scream. You can't mind read! Oh shit, you just got overpowered! What is going on?

Suddenly, a huge swarm of bug-like creatures forms into a vaguely humanoid shape down the hall, eventually becoming a normal human being, except for one detail. Two very large compound eyes. It hisses, and grows two insectile wings, and flies toward you. The Hidden slashes a wing off while dodging, and the creature slams into the wall further down. It turns around, and grows another wing.
