The Subject, New Edition.
« on: June 21, 2011, 10:52:14 am »

This is going to be a revival of an old forum adventure I attempted to make. Linky to it. I promise I'll try to make this last longer then two pages. I am just going to take serious suggestions, and not jokey ones (Unless it happens to be opposite day.)

*

You weren't exactly a normal person. You know that much. Most normal people are not locked away in huge and impossibly convoluted mazes of interlocking metal cages. Your cell was the only thing you knew, the stench of fear, the screaming of madness-stricken people and occasional bucket of easily digestible sludge. For a long time, you thought this was some sort of punishment for whatever sin you committed. That may still hold water. You still managed to escape, anyway. You sneaked your way past the guards, the cameras and the automated turrets. You managed to make it to the end of this rat maze, and you took an elevator to the surface.  The light blinded you, and you dragged yourself into a ditch to hide from the blinding light. Once you got used to it, you realized you had to run away, because whoever captured you will not give themselves up just yet. It took a whole day, but you think you are close to civilization. There are lights on the horizon, and outlines of buildings. Looks like a town. That's when the voices started to talk.

They asked you something.

What is your power, and what do you look like?

Telepathy.

You're a big, muscled man. Messy dark brown hair covers your head, and you have similarily shaggy beard. Your features are hard and a somewhat skeletal due to years and years of malnutrition.

Whatever those bastards did to you, they had one goal in mind: controlling your enemies thoughts. You can easily hear other people's thoughts, and can ignore them easily if you are in a crowded area. You can plant ideas in someones heads, but it takes a lot out of you. Annoyingly, the problem with this is the fact you are very empathic and if you are nearby when someone dies you pass out. Still, this leads to good social skills. This is quite good since your body is a complete mess, with muscles when you are pretty malnourished, making a bizarre and almost terrifying body. Good thing you wear clothes most of the time.

Now, the lights of the town await. Shall you head into town, or wait for the morning?

You could probably reach it in about twenty minutes if you ran.

It takes about forty minutes to get to the town, and it's not exactly great. It's got this horrible oppressive sort of suburban feel to it, and you have a terrible feeling you are being watched. You get a very... weird sort of vibe from the whole town. You wish to get out of here as fast as possible, but you gotta find somewhere to sleep. You watch a helicopter drift overhead. Actually, it's not that far from the ground. Suddenly, the doors open and two ropes drop onto the ground. A squad of soldiers go down these ropes. Actually, they are more like the riot squad versions of the security guards at the base... seems like they are looking for you.

"Spread out, men! Search for and then stun Subject-13, shoot him in the head if he resists! Remember, only kill him if he actively attempts to kill you!" The soldier who appears to be the leader shouts.

Ohhhh dear.

Read the thoughts of the soldiers and using that knowledge, try to avoid them and to get trough the town.

Mind control the leader, make him mistake a roughly similar man for yourself.

You tune your mind towards the soldiers.

MEOW MEOW MEOW MEOW

You know, being a security officer for a corporation really has it downsides. What do I post on my facebook when I am on a mission?

Okay... just don't think about it... don't think about it... the game FUCK!

God, my girlfriend is going to be pissed about me not getting her a birthday present... Better get some perfume.

MEOWMEOWMEOWMEOWhy can't I get this stupid thing out of my heMEOWMEOWMEOWMEOWMEOW

Right, that was completely useless. You try mind controlling the leader, but that backfires right onto you. You get a headache, and it seems you won't be able to use your implanting powers for a while.

You did :P

On a serious note:
Try to go trough the town unnoticed without using mind reading.

(Remember, for how many times you are trying to memorize something, how many times have you just plain fooled around in your head?)

You duck and keep to the shadows. This is not a good situation. Suddenly, a Security Officer comes near. You try to keep silent. You cough. The soldier looks directly at you. You manage to sneak away in time. You can hear him say "Lost track of suspect, heading towards November Zebra 13." Right, they know where you are, but you think you have a head start. You are on a crossroads. The streetlights dimly show the way. In the road in front of you, there is a large city mall in the distance. To the right, a car park. To your left, the main residential district. You can't go back, because you'd certainly run into the soldiers there.

Go the residential district, and use your mind reading abilities to monitor the location of the soldiers.

You run to the residential district and search for the Security Officers. They are close. Too close for comfort... The good news is that you can hide in some of the houses. You think you can explain fairly easily what's up to whoever wonders what the hell you are doing in their home. Though, you'd have to rely on your charm to get you through, since you are still burnt out by the thought backfire. If you don't wanna take any risks, there is always the dumpster.
