Kin shook her head. Things were worse than she thought! And now the witch had shown itself, or so she was thinking. She had to fight back! That's what the terms of the contract were, and she considered herself an honorable girl. She took her soul gem between her hands and focused on it. In a flash of golden light, her appearance morphed, her standard white blouse and black skirt becoming silver and gold, with multiple layers of cloth. Her walking stick appeared in one hand and a golden top hat in the other as the gem set itself in a brooch at her left shoulder.

"All right..." Kin said, putting the hat on and running a finger along the front of the brim while she lifted the cane in the other hand. I wish I was a Type O and not Type A, she thought worriedly as she took the cane into both hands and pulled it apart into a long whip. She was scared, but she was determined, and as the arm - or so she was going to think of it - came at her she attempted to dodge to the side and lash it.

Disgusted with the lack of progress Leah threw up her hands and started storming down the various alleyways and streets, muttering under her breath the entire time. Well, if she couldn't find the slums she could at least find a decent place to sleep for the night. In the past she had slept in the gang houses, but in a strange new city she had no option but to find a hostel, or a park bench. Sleeping outside did not sound inviting at all.
Wait a second... She stopped walking and started looking around. That thing said that I was supposed to fight witches. What better way to prove myself to the gangs than to find a few missing orphans and use that as leverage? Forget trying to work my way into their graces first. After I'm done they'll practically beg me to stick around. Happy with her train of logic, Leah pulled out her soul gem and started a sweep of the city, looking for witches.

For the non-genre savvy:

Runes at least covers letters in the English alphabet, numerals and the German "SS". Your Soul gem, when in the "ring" form which is worn on your middle finger, has your name written in runes on it. You soul gem also has a gem form which is in the size of an small egg, and a transformed form which is incorporated stylishly in your transformed costume.

Leah jumped to her feet. Now this is more like it! Clasping her hands to her chest she transformed into her magical girl appearance. Her purple and white outfit slowly resolved out of the brightness emanating from her soul gem, finally coming to rest on her body. The soul gem was now centered in the middle of a choker, around her neck. With a laugh of joy she started chasing after the movement. Reaching into her coat she pulled out her two derringer fans. You can't be too prepared...

Even you got the upper hand for this moment, she can still transform you into minced magical girl if you are not careful. You decide to...
