My fortress is rather dirty, and shrubs and trees have been sprouting up in it. Recently, I had a shrub appear on a tile that contained an upward staircase. The staircase was silently destroyed without my knowledge, and rendered a portion of my fortress unaccessible. Examining the tile showed it only contained a shrub and the floor.

Upon reconstructing the staircase, traffic flowed freely once more.

Over the course of this fortress, I've had this occur with both plants and tree sprouts on each of the three types of stairs. The stairs were directly dug out of stone rather than constructed, if this makes a difference.
