Sean I was wondering, do we have to keep all the specalized gear and losing items malarkey? I think one of the reasons the original was so successful was because it started simple. It is a lot of fun to see a grip of barely clad jerks turn into a group of powerful jerks. It gave everyone the chafe to gain their own powers ans specialize with unique weapons.
Problem with a group of powerful jerks is, I have to scale up encounters. Players, being players,
will accumulate ridiculous quantities of off-verse tech, which, with the world selection mechanic, means that things I have previously planned to be reasonably tough for the starting players (with some allowance for progression) will become ridiculously easy in some cases. So, the power loss mechanic is really there to keep things interesting and to make you keep trying to gain new powers while not having a vast array of working powers to rely on should something go horribly wrong. ^_^ And unlike abilities, skills don't have a chance to be lost on world transition, so with gear it'd be just point and shoot, and I would like to devalue that as a solution to all or most problems as much as possible.
edit: and no, no Pony world. Even though it could easily be swapped in (there are several worlds I don't particularly care for in the list anyway), there are some considerations that prevent it from being a viable choice - not least of all is the one that I wouldn't like ponies to get
shot, thankyouverymuch.
(and yes, there are other considerations, like "no humans in Equestria" or the whole transformation issue - if you get turned into a pony and
succeed the transfer roll, you will
stay a pony. Neat, huh?
) No Fo:E world for the simple reason that I didn't like the fic enough to read it through, so I'm only familiar with the most basic premise of it.
