A couple of mining questions
« on: June 19, 2011, 10:03:46 pm »

1. Does finding random rough-hewn obsidian mean there is magma nearby?
2. Does gold indicate there is fiery HFS nearby?

1. No. Obsidian can form layers.

2. No. Gold seams are frequent, and not tied to candystores.

Yay! Good, because I found a lot of gold and even more obsidian than anybody could ever need.

However, if you begin to see designations cancelled due to warm stone, you might wish to have a bit of care. Warm = magma in proximity.

Please note that the mining, smoothing, engraving, smelting and smithing of gold is likely to result in goblins and kobolds, so build a bridge before you start.

Gold's nowhere near HFS, it's the shiny blue things you have to watch out for  :o
Obsidian's not much of a sign of hot magma, heated walls are the signs. Obsidian is valuable non-ore stone, though!

Just wondering, did you think gold was HFS because of one dwarf against the world?

I second this notion. Best metal in the game. ;)

Nonsense. Dwarf Metal is the best metal. No puny elfs survive in Terrifying Biomes.
