[modding] Internal limit on bodyparts?
« on: April 21, 2008, 09:45:00 am »

Probably not, but still, that's the only cause I can determine.

I am getting a ridiculous number of crashes with the new version of the MA mod I'm making. The crashes happen always at the same moment, as soon as an adventurer takes a step after a site (town or random) has loaded. They don't always happen, but when they do, it's then.

I've narrowed down the causes to the changes to the body structure I have made. Specifically, all humanoid creatures have received 11 new body parts, and quadrupeds have got, on average, 19 new ones. Hydras were stupendously reworked, but they alone do not cause the crashes.
Most creatures' BODY lines have been altered, increased in length by a large amount, as now they consist of entries referring to individual small part sets, like 2-part body, upper 3-part arms, lower 3-part legs, etc, etc.
A humongous amount of entries for those parts has been added to the bodypart lists, some of them being practically copies of originals under other IDs, but the crashes started appearing before the additions were so numerous.

Is there anything I can change in the mod, compact it somehow, so that whatever's going wrong can work right again? Or can nothing but a code change fix this?

Bumpity.

The length of the creature BODY entry does not have an effect on this.
The amount of individual body entries also has no relation to this whatsoever.

Having tried out a mod that's similar in concept (and bodyparts), I'm beginning to think something much more subtle is the cause.

Toady, I know you're all into the army arc currently, but if you have some time at the next phase's bugfix round, maybe you could look into my mod?
Here it is.

No save I made as of yet could reproduce a single crash...

I don't understand.  You want me to look at a mod that doesn't reproduce a crash?
