Water wheel not working
« on: June 19, 2011, 02:50:53 pm »

It's a brook, and yes I channeled it out first. I'm pretty sure I built it just like I used to when I played older versions. I channeled the middle tile of the wheel and it won't let me build, saying something like it needs to be near machinery. So I put an axle next to it. Now I can build the wheel but it always reads as "Inactive". So I replace the axle with a gear, still nothing. I decon the wheel, channel all 3 tiles, rebuild, still nothing. I thought maybe the ramps were breaking it so I built a special trench, with channels and no ramps, then diverted the brook through it. Still doesn't work.

'Inactive' implies that either there isn't water directly beneath it, or that water isn't flowing.

Did you channel out all three tiles under the water wheel, or only the center one?

Tried it both ways. Both failed. The water looks like it is flowing. I'm using Mayday tileset and the brook tiles flash between 2 different colors, as opposed to the lakes and ponds that don't flash.

Do I need to build it "in" the water? I'm building it at ground level, the water is at -1 and the ground is channeled where I am building it. This is exactly how I used to do it in previous versions and it worked.

That should work.  I've not got a brook on any current fort that mean I could boot any of those up to test this on...  But without the channelling, I know it's how I've gotten it to work on proper rivers.

No, building right above water should work. Maybe a screenshot would help us understand?

The infinite reactor does work correctly. It feels exploity but I guess I have no choice. Thanks for the help.

My brook is broke!

What's the water level of the brook? (k) to check. If it's less than 4/7, that's why it won't work.
