A Kobold's Adventure

A Kobold's Adventure

You awaken on a cold stone floor, deep in the Blackcough caverns, and far away from home. There's little light aside from the shroom you picked yesterday, not that you need much of it, since your a Kobold-a small, ratty, lizard/dog creature with the abilty to see in the dark and a sneaky disposition.

You check your lunchbox and find little more than crumbs. Tipping the last drops of water from your bottle reveals much the same. Depressing.

But your still well armed-your spear is a little bit splintered from yesterdays...excitement. The shield you stole is looking a little worse for wear. Must have been that big iron mace what did that. Your bola is hanging from your waist, and it can probably do some nasty damage if you hit anything with it, and if any of those mean Gnomes find you, you've got a surprise for them-a jar of Gnomeblight.

For all the trouble you've gone to to rob the Foothill Village, you've got a little to show for it. A bunch of assorted coins, a nifty Gnomish clockwork time piece and a large tubular scroll case, that you have not been able to open-it's got a little keyhole that you could probably pick if you had the right tools.

Now, you need to get back home-Kweed'Rik'Tik will want his 50% cut of your haul. You know there's three ways from here to get you back to your village...

You can double back into the Gnome's sewer system you just escaped from, and use the secret entrance you used to get in. Assuming the Gnome guards and their pet moles don't sniff you out, you might even be able to do a little more robbing.

You can descend into the Fungal Jungle-assuming you don't get eaten, you won't run into any Gnomes, and you might even run into some of your tribes hunters. It's a long way round, though, but there's plenty of food and water, so at least you won't starve.

Or you can take a shortcut through the Cave Dragons territory. He usually doesn't bother you if you don't bother him. You've even scavenged off his kills a few times, and he doesn't seem to mind if you stay out of his way.

Oh yeah. What was your name again? That club must have hit you harder than you realized.

I vote Tak'mil

I say double back into the sewer system, and if you think it's not too risky try to steal anything that you can get your hands on that isn't bolted down.

A Kobold story was one of the things I was considering before I decided on Gnomes, you have my endorsement ;)

Ahh, your mother did name you Tak'mil, didn't she? You already miss her-and she's waiting for you to get back with dinner, after all.

Your concept of more loot versus an easy trip home...it's not an easy decision. Your mind has not made itself up yet, so you do the Koboldly thing and instinctively scour the area your in for scraps of food and trinkets. No dice! Though you do find some dice-two dice, in fact, made of metal, with six sides. You study it with one eye-judging by the craftsmanship, they're Dwarven. Dwarf stuff always sells good, but your considering keeping these for yourself already.

You chortle, tumbling your tiny prize over and over for fun. You begin to wonder what it was like if your entire life was decided by some giant hand, rolling dice and determining your fate. Such thoughts are too big for a Kobolds mind, so you ignore them.

Got a pair of six sided Dwarven Dice

1 Vote for backtracking through the Gnomish Sewer System
0 Votes for the long road through the Fungal Jungle
1 Vote for shortcut through the Cave Dragons Lair

When I say roll the dice I mean in the perspective of the kobold, I do suggest using random.org to do that though.

Deciding to allow fate steer your course, you toss one die and it lands on a three!

Sewer it is, and you were just getting the smell off you...

*some time passes*

You head back the way you came from yesterday. You can still see the light marks of Gnome boots and paw prints of the giant rodents they use as bloodhounds in the dirt-apparently they were mad enough to actually follow you a fair way down here before turning back.

Emerging from the darkness of the cave, you find the old drain hole that the Kobolds use to sneak into the village-but it's being blockaded! The Gnomes are erecting a temporary barricade of wood planks and thick wire across the entrance, but it's only half complete-judging by the Gnomish tool boxes still laying about, they've probably gone to get some more supplies to finish the job.

You could wriggle through like the vermin you are...Tak'mir would half to careful, though. As he looks through the fence, he can see one of the Gnomes Guard Moles laying on its side, snoozing, a few feet away. Those monsters are not only ferocious-their sense of smell is good enough to track anyone, no matter how far they run.

Indeed! The Gnomes are much better sewer builders than humans, since they deal directly with invasions from the underworld all the time. They know how to build them to keep Kobolds out, so there's not alot of entrances. Most kobolds view stealing from Gnomes as professional challenge more than anything.

Also, your in the backup tunnel Tak'mir had to take to avoid capture. His secret passage is probably still undiscovered.

It's either backtrack your backtracking, or go forward.

Forwards it is then - stab the sleeping guard mole in the throat with the short spear so it can't follow you and then run for it if it squeals.

Also I second stealing some tools
