I get this crash very often, about every 5-10 minutes.

Is there any known fix or workaround for it?

are you playing vanilla? try just reinstalling DF and try that if not try with an older version of DF or if your using vista you might want to try compatibility mode or run as administrator (i am and never had any problems but you never know)

Windows Xp, runing clean vanilla doesn't change anything. I get this crash when use tilesets and don't all the same. Never used any utils for df so that's not it. It's a bit annoying.

It could be your hardware.  I turned my RAM settings down to "normal", and crashes went away.  Even though I wasn't overclocking, and my RAM was rated for faster speed, and I passed memtest86, the crashes went away after setting my machine to normal.
