I once went out around Hull's fine real ale establishments with my friends, and we became drunk. The drunkest of us vomited on a huge plastic toad, the second drunkest insisted that he must bring with him a discarded bike frame in case it was any good.

If I remember correctly, it's supposed to be good for your heart, and pretty much nothing else.
So not really anything you'd see anyway.
Not only is the statistic dodgy, there's also a very clear reason why it's dodgy.

The study that showed this compared Britain (I think?  May have been another country) to France (which drinks more red wine) and found that the French suffered from less heart disease.

However... as it turns out, Britain marks deaths which seem natural but which the cause cannot be fully established as "heart failure" while France marks those same cases with "unknown causes".  Therefore France gets an apparent lower rate of heart problems.

Well, that does make sense in a way. Either your heart or your brain failing to function are the only two things that can ultimately kill you, but other circumstances can cause that to happen.

Your cardiologist would love you to drink one glass of wine per day, your gastroenterologist will disagree.

What's good for one aspect of your body may harm another. OTOH, what's life worth if you can actually remember it? Exactly.

If you can remember it, you need to drink more.

Yeah.  It's not that the French system is worse, just that it cannot be compared to the English one.

At least Kronenbourger piss is more drinkable than Guinness. Yes, I just said that.

Damn this thread makes me thirsty.

Saltaire Dublin stout is infinitely more drinkable than both.

Heh, I was wondering when this thread would become an ale/beer fight.

Go at it while I break out some zinfandel.  ;)

When I was young, tonic gave me a slight rash (or I thought it was the tonic, maybe just a coincidence) so I never drank it since.
So, to see if it's still the case, I just downed my first gin-tonic and it's... pretty good, actually.

I'm going to make another one.

Spiced rum is not as nice as the dark navy rum I usually drink, but damn does it go down easy. Went to the pub tonight and had a few nice pints and a single of Lamb's spiced. Wanted a bottle of Orval, but ran out of money. Sigh.

Alright you guys before I turn 21 in some years from now answer me this: is red wine worth drinking once in a while? People have told me it has positive health effects, but during the nineties people believed drinking vinegar (pure vinegar) had positive health effects.

Vinegar is fucking great. I love that stuff.

What kind of vinegar? The normal one or are you into balsamic vinegar and such (disclamer, cheap balsamic vinegar is to vinegar what cheap alcohol is to 20 year scotch ).
