funny, how just earlier today I explained to someone on IRC just how one would go about producing potassium cyanide using nothing but simple chemicals like KOH, HCl and almonds




obviously not for any bad reasons....for...building a more believable RP-setting.


that being said, don't make cyanide. if you lack the proper apparatus, the fumes will kill you.


if you have the proper apparatus, go and get some almonds




ahh...it feels good when studying chemistry finaly teaches me something useful that I can share with people.

aaanyway, time for some proper chemistry. some stuff I did with KOH when the TA was on break:


smoke bombs:


you will need the following:


KOH tabletts (not a solution, if you use a solution...step back)
Hydroxylammonium chloride (powder. that stuff can be bought in old-fashioned pharmacies, on the internet, and from shops that sell schooling material. I recommend the internet. http://www.reagent.co.uk/solid-chemicals/hydroxylammonium-chloride-ar.html )


grind the KOH into a powder, weigh SEPERATELY 30 gramms of each, then CAREFULLY (and quickly) mix the two in something that could withstand a little fire. after about 3 seconds, it should start to smoke like crazy.


don't worry, totaly harmless smoke, they use that stuff in fog-machines.




for additional fun, put it somewhere high, where nobody can reach it. should fill a room to almost no visibility in about 3 minutes, if done properly








if you do not have the KOH as tabletts or powder, consider simply straining the solution you have until a powder is left over






and FOR FUCKS SAKE do not touch the powder or the tablett with bare skin. remember fight club? "this is your pain. accept it"

Need bitter almonds for that, normal almonds don't contain a lot of cyanide-containing components.

A friend of mine ate a bunch of bitter almonds once and accidentally got what was probably mild cyanide poisoning from it (he was very flushed/red in the face, and I forget what else, but he was fine after a while). Whoops. Probably depends on how they're prepared, though.

Nah, don't do it. I think soap is bugged at the moment.

problem is, you can't mix 30 Kg nearly fast enough for proper reaction
