Anyway, potassium hydroxide is usefull as a catalyst for all kinds of reactions but I don't know if you'd want to do any of them.

People here seem to be confusing acids with bases. Sodium hydroxide isn't acidic, it's alkaline. Granted, that's potentially worse when it comes to eating through your flesh.

Also keep in mind that soap made with KOH tends to be pretty much a liquid.

Yeah, potash soap is hardcore cleaning stuff.

In typical use, yeah, but you can make it just as harsh (or not) as soap made with NaOH (or anything else).

Well, I guess you could try getting yourself a batch of ethyl bromide to make ethyl alcohol with it, but that's both going to be nasty to clean and far from exiting (not to mention not fit for human consumption)

To make the soap you'll need fat, and preferably a bag of sawdust.
